Question about Flying Continental.....

Ok, we bought our tickets on 6/21/09 and are flying on 12/27/09 and 1/3/10. I'm TRYING to figure out how much our luggage will be (first bag only) but from the site information, I'm having issues. It LOOKS like it should be $20 for the first bag, but then the * confusses me..... Heres the link so you can try and figure it out for me!!!! Will it really be $15 per bag? $25 per bag???

Also, anyone fly them lately? I just want to make sure that we wont be charged for gate checking our strollers. Last time we flew (a year ago via Spirit) we were not, but times are changing......

I can't say what the fees will be for second bags or if there are any for strollers, but you do know that you don't have to say which bags belongs to which passenger, right? So, IOW, if you, your husband and two kids each have a ticket, then you can check up to four bags as first bags.

Also, I believe they cut you a small break if you pay the checked-bag fees on-line ahead of time. You can do it when you check in for your flight, but make sure you only pay for the exact number of pieces you’re bringing, as you won’t able to get a refund if you decide to leave a bag behind.

ETA: The most important thing of all--make sure your bags weigh less than 50 pounds each. You'll pay through the nose if any are overweight.

Oh yeah, I know that we get 4 for the 1st bag - thats why I said "first bag only"

And yeah, I know about the 50lbs thing - DH puts the suit cases on the scale before we leave for every trip!!!! LOL

The * pertians to: * Customers who purchased tickets on or after July 21, 2009 for travel on or after Aug. 19, 2009 will be charged $15 for their first checked bag and $25 for their second checked bag when prepaying at continental.com.

So how i read this is if you purchased your tickets on or after 7/21 for travel on or after 8/21 your fee is $15 for your first bag instead of $18 IF you prepay online.

I can't speak for the gate checked items.

I think I'm going to have to. I'm also trying to find where I can pre-pay online, but for the life of me, I keep hitting dead ends on that too!!

Also, the first checked bag price is per travelled. So each person travelling gets the cheaper rate first.

So if 4 people are travelling, its $20x4. Get it? That was really confusing

I get that. Plus its $20x4x4 because we have to pay on the way BACK too. OY

I truly hate paying for checked bags. I'm so lucky to live in a city that has great service via Southwest airlines.

Last summer we went on a cruise and had to fly to Miami, SW doesn't go there, they go to Lauderdale. We didn't have enough time to fly into FLL then get transport to the Port of Miami, so we ended up with American Air and it was the first time EVER that we had to pay for our luggage and it STUNK.

I'd rather just pay a higher fare than have to deal with paying for luggage.

Not quite - it is $20x4x2 (unless you are going there and back AND there and back).

Actually, I think it is $15x4x2 (though it is admittedly confusing).

ditto to the southwest judos. baggage fee just increases my LUV for them.

Flew continental last week from montreal to iah. 20 for first bag. 30 for second bag. per trip.
