Okay, so I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I wanted to ask.

I'm highly allergic to several different things. Therefore, I carry and epi-pen. Do they allow these in the carry on baggage or do they have to be checked? I just want to make sure of the policy.

TIA....

Bring your epi-pens with you on the flight. If G-d forbid you have a reaction mid-flight, you NEED to have them with you. It would be life-threatening to NOT have them in your carryon with you. It is perfectly within TSA and airline rules for you to bring them in your carryon. I've always put them in my bag with liquid medicine that is exempt from the 3-1-1 rules that I declare to TSA (I keep them in their own gallon sized ziploc bag which I pull from my carryon when going through the scanner so the TSA agents can clearly see them).

I think epi-pens are like diabetes supplies -TSA sees a lot of them and they know what they are. I used to put my insulin and other diabetes medication pens in special bags, along with my other medical stuff and send them through separately. I don't bother with that anymore. The only time I mention anything is if I have something that has to be refrigerated and I have my small cooler.

Never put your medical supplies in your checked bag - if they are lost you could be looking at a lot of hassle to get very expensive replacements. And in the case of an epi-pen, not having it available could have fatal consequences.

You need this and all medication in your carryon. Some will suggest you have a letter from your doctor stating your need. I've never been asked for he letter. Just remove the epipens from your bag so they are visible as they are scanned.

No letter is necessary. If you check TSA.gov, the procedure for taking meds through security is clearly explained.
