I understand AP rates have only been consistant for around 2 years now and as it seems they may be phasing them out. Is this the same with FL resident rates or has disney always offered this? I know this seems selfish at a time when many people are struggling with AP rate but I would hate to find out I can't get the FL rates either now. Does anyone know how far they go back? Thanks

I think it's been more than 2 years. I know they didn't used to offer AP discounts in the fall (value season). I think 2000 was the first time they offered them in the fall. At one time, Disney Club (Magic Kingdom Club) was 30% off in the fall, then it dropped to 20% for deluxe, now it's only 15% during value season for deluxe.

FL resident rates go way back to the early 90s if not before and are still offered at select times of the year.

We had FL resident rates back in Jan, 1998, for Port Orleans and have gotten them every year since then. We do go off season and only have seasonal passes, so I don't know about peak season rates. We went in May, 97, but I didn't have any information then and did not know you could get them--we paid rack rate!

This year's FL rates for the moderates have been cheaper than they were in past years too, by $5-$10 per night, at least for us! At $74.00/night in May, $15.00 cheaper than when we went in Jan 98.

I'm not sure how long Disney has been offering FLA RES rates but I am guessing it's been a long time. Case in point...there are FLA RES room only rates out now until 10/1. So FLA RES rates and AP rates don't go hand in hand. In addition, the FLA RES rate from 8/24 to 10/1 was first offered through the DISNEY VISA and then it was opened to all Florida residents. Which could possibly give you some more food for thought.

Florida Resident rates an AP rates both go back to at least the early/mid 1990s. And they were usually offered, consistently every year, at concurrent times.

Search groups.google.com for rec.arts.disney.parks for archived messages going back that far. :)

I got my first AP rate for Dec 1992. Can't remember when they came out (S) but don't think it was to close to the vacation time. (2-3 months?) We stayed at DL (now PORS). My parents treated us in April of 1992, and after that I got the bug. Started reading the Disney Fans BB on Prodigy. (Still have the tee-shirt.) That is where I first learned about the discounts.
