This question is actually not about airfare to WDW (maybe next year), but I was hoping someone might have had experience with Farecast.

Does anyone use Farecast to predict airfare? If so, how accurate are they? I am looking at some fare, and Farecast predicts it will drop by $50+ with 80% confidence. Has anyone ever found them to be completely inaccurate? In other words, should I wait this out?

Also, does anyone know of a site that let's you mix and match fares with different airlines? I thought OneTravel did that (eg. Depart on Delta, return on U.S. Airways) but it doesn't seem to have that option anymore.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I have never used farecast, but my opinion is that airfare will not be decreasing any time soon. Every trip I have taken, the plane has been full or nearly full. Airlines are not adding any significant inventory of seats to their fleets int he coming months so I find it unlikely that the airlines need to discount to fill the planes. Please remember this is only one persons opinion, but based on what I see and supply and demand principles, I find it unlikely to be less expensive.

With that said, when you buy and what days you travel can make a big difference in flight costs. We have found that flying mid week and middle of the day have been significantly less expensive than other times. Also try booking your airfare on Tuesday/Wednesday. Typically those are the lowest pricing days.

I'm sure others may feel differently.

Im not sure anyone can tell you how accurate they are. It is a prediction based on past history but there is never 100% confidence.

Have you looked at the price history? Are the least expensive flights ones that work the best for you? Even if fares go down on some flights, they may stay high on the flights you want to take.

What happerns to your plans if fares stay the same or go up instead of down? Is your Plan B to stay home or can you easily move the trip to another date? If the latter, it may make sense to wait.

Most travel agents, including online ones like expedia and travelocity, can sell a ticket with two airlines. In addtiion, you may be able to buy 2 one way tickets directly from the airlines at no additional cost.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
