Can DVC points be used for stays at the Polynesian?

It depends.

If you purchase directly from Disney, yes. If you purchase through resale, no.
It is not the best value to use points for non-DVC Disney resorts. It takes a LOT of points and there is a $95 exchange fee.

Plus that option goes away if a Poly DVC comes on board.

Or you could buy a smaller or stripped contract now and do cash at the Poly to build up the points. With your flexibility you'll be able to search for the right contract.

We are staying the the Poly next week and our resale contract is in ROFR now. Hoping we hear something while on our trip
