Question about EMHs

We are going to Disney in April and staying onsite for 2 nights and then checking in to a timeshare. The last time we did thas we were able to take advantage of the Magic hours as there were no dates on the room keys and all you had to do is to show the key (this was actually a suggestion from a Port Orleans hotel desk clerk). Has this changed with the new evening hours? Do the keys have dates or are they scanned before issuing a wristband?

I just got back yesterday, and there were dates on my room key. Also, they were checking photo ID's as well when we went to get the wristbands.

We were there for a week mid-January and there are indeed dates on the room keys and also each member of your party now gets their own room ID with their names on it (use to be the same name on all cards). We went to evening EMH at all four parks and at each park the CMs took your card and checked the dates very carefully, mostly to see if they expired. They never asked for a photo ID, but we did have our APs in our hand with our room key and our APs have our names on them.

Our room keys always had dates printed on them. Anyway, why would you expect to get a Disney resort guest perk when you're not staying in a Disney resort?

I have always had the dates on my Key to the Kingdom Card (key) and I am really surprised that a CM suggested you basically cheat the system and continue to try to slip by with expired cards

OK, you have hit a nerve. I don't care what pool you use, if you bring back an old mug, how many you have in a room, or any of the other hot button topics that come up all the time. But, abusing early entry is my pet peeve. If you want the perk, then pay for it. If I am staying on site and paying for the privileges and you are "cheating" the system and are in front of me in line, your actions are reducing my onsite benefits. You may say.."what is the big deal, we're just a couple more people in line"... but how many others like you are doing it? It starts to add up. Bottom line...if you want the perk, then pay for it.

I don't like to post negative things here, but I have to agree with Rescue Ranger on this.

I don't usually post in "heated" threads, but this one I will. When I stay on site, I stay onsite to be able to take advantage of the perks. Mostly the EMH and bus service.

EMH Epcot evening Feb 1. Arrived at park around 8:50 and got our wristband. NO TICKETS WERE CHECKED. While we were waiting for security to check our bag, one woman was at the gate talking to a CM about her neices and nephews not having their room keys with them since their parents had them and they went back to the room to rest. She let them through.
Didn't end up riding anything so I don't know if they were checking wrists or not there.

EMH MK evening Feb 2. Rained from about 6:00 - 7:30 approx. We got to the park around 5:00 and got our wristband. ROOM KEYS WERE CHECKED! And yes, they have a date on them. When we got in line for most attractions our wrists weren't checked but we ended up riding most rides before 7:00. Around 7:30 we were entering the line for Peter Pan and noticed that the family in front of us DID NOT have on wristbands. They rode, took up three cars, not that its a big deal, but if everyone did it, I never would have gotten on. Of course I don't know if they got to ride anything else since I didnt see them for the next hour and 1/2. BUT, when we rode the carpets, our wrists WERE CHECKED! And I commented to the ride operator that I was happy to see them checking.

I truly believe CMs will be checking alot more than they did last week when guests staying at Disney resorts begin to complain. I did send an email to them and talking to Guest Services while there as well because it is new and the kinks need to be worked out so Im sure feedback would be welcome.

Oh and I also got a survey regarding EMH evenings a couple days ago and answered honestly.

It's a perk for staying on site and should not be abused. JMHO.

I have to agree.
I'm not one to really "care" about pool hopping (it's just not something that concerns US, although I understand why it bothers others) and I really do NOT care if people use resort mugs from another resort... who knows if they did the resort hopping and don't want to buy a mug each time they check into a different resort during their trip... sodas cost pennies anyway really.

But we're staying onsite to take advantage of the EMH evenings and we're going in June- it's going to be crowded all day and it's going to really be a bummer if they are not strict on only resort guests getting wristbands and riding the rides during that time. I think it would totally bum me out if I saw a lot of people without wristbands riding those evenings, especially if the park is crowded and lines are still long during EMH. No fair to cheat........

If anyone sees this happening while they are at WDW during the EMH I would strongly encourage you to go to City hall in MK or the designated place in each park and make a complaint at some point. This will be the only way that things get changed. There may be some CM's who could care less about checking wrist bands and making that a requirement to get on a ride but it won't be until management gets wind that this is happening and they start enforcing policy on the CM's that we see a change.

I think other on-site perks are good until midnight on the day you check-out. But would an evening EMH be OK if you're leaving Orlando or that on-site hotel later that eve?

I completely agree with you. That is all I am going to say!!

I am a pretty laid back person when it comes to bending the rules, but in this case it almost feals like some one is stealing from you. We pay a premium price to get the premium perks, and EMH is one of them!
