Question about eggs benedict

I guess this is a spinoff of the breakfast thread.

I noticed a lot of people order eggs Benedict. I like them too, and I sometimes make them at home.

My question: Is your English muffin generally toasted? Or is it served plain/untoasted with the eggs on top?

The reason I ask is because there's a place I go to that serves them untoasted and I really don't like them that way. I definitely prefer my English muffin toasted! :goodvibes

(Wondering if this could be regional, too? :tilt: )

I've never had them untoasted - they are a bit doughy until toasted. If you bought them here to eat at home it would say to toast them.

I've always assumed that the English muffin is toasted, but sometimes it seems soft - I always thought it was from butter or the hollandaise or bacon grease or what-have you. But yeah, I think that the English muffin is always toasted at the places I go to (and I toast it at home).

It's always been toasted when I have ordered them and every recipe I have seen says to toast it.

Personally not a fan of eggs benedict but I make it for DH or company sometimes. I always toast - I thought it was part of the recipe. :confused3

Ok thanks for the verification! I thought so, which is why it is so weird to have them served that way!

The toasty part is really a big part of what makes them so good!

TOASTED....like after several adult beverages.

Or BAKED like...Betty Crocker.;) Seriously the English muffin should be toasted for eggs benedict because it gets all tasty when the hollandaise and egg yolk gets all runny on it. BTW, there is a package mix for hollandaise sauce made by Knorr which is very close to being as good as "from scratch" sauce.

...used to make that, but it's not GF, and my DH cannot eat anything with wheat or flour...

I've never had Eggs Benedict but English Muffins are made to be toasted. Mine actually says, "toast before eating" on the package.

I like my english muffins and bagels both toasted, but I guess they are something not everyone toasts, so I now always add that I want them toasted when I order them.

To answer your question seriously Pea, I love toasty and my dh literally runs away from toast. He hates anything toasted.
