Question about ECV at POR

Has anyone stayed at POR in the AB section with an ECV they rented offsite? My concern is the pictures look like there is a step up an how can you get to your room to recharge. I called and spoke to a real nice CM who said I could request a handicap accessible room but I do not need the roll in shower and must have 2 beds. Anyone with experience plese ....help

No, they are not a step up. There are no WDW resorts where there is a step to get into the ground floor rooms, so you don’t have to worry about that where ever you stay. It’s just hard to get a picture of some of the resorts where you can see the entrance because of all the landscaping.

POR Alligator Bayou buildings do not have elevators, so you will need to make a request for ground floor for Medical Reasons (it is important to state it is for medical reasons because they fill those first before the general requests for the same things).

Also - don’t be concerned about the pictures like this of the check in/food court/shop area

There are steps here, but there are other ways into the building that are ramped.

Maybe I am reading your comment wrong, there are steps at the AB buildings. BUT there are accessible ramped sidewalks, too. Here is a picture of AB Building 14. Notice the stair railings. This picture comes from http://www.portorleans.org/

They have other photos in their gallery of the steps at other AB buildings. What the pictures don't show you is that there are gentle sidewalks also leading up to the buildings nearby to the steps so that the buildings are easily accessible. The landscaping covers your view of them.

We were in Alligator Bayou section last November, Building 15, on the first floor in a handicap room. I have my own scooter. The ramped sidewalk to reach our room was in a convenient location. We had no problem accessing our building or our room. We liked Building 15 and Building 14 because they were close to the food court and there was a short-cut path to the main bus stop from there.

I should have probably stated differently - there are no WDW resorts where you HAVE to use stairs to get into the ground floor. Some may have stairs as a design feature, but there will be a way around using the stairs to get in.
I have some pictures of POR on my computer. I'll try to look tonight or this weekend to see if I have any that show the sidewalks.
Before we bought into DVC, we stayed at POR frequently. We were in building 14 a few times and also farther out. At the time DD was little, so she had a wheelchair, but we didn't get an accessible room.

I went a few years ago just to take accessibility pictures. I'll look this weekend to see what I have.

That's what I thought you were saying, because you showed the food court building with steps and explained there was ramped access out of view. We love POR and POFQ and stay there every time. Coming again in Sept.

The only thing I don't like about AB buildings being up off the ground is the drop you could have where there aren't railings along the walkway. Some places there is a section of railing between two vertical posts. Outside our handicap room there was no railing, and I was truly afraid of giving my scooter too much power and going off the walkway straight into the landscape. The walkway really isn't that wide.

Thanks so much for your replies. Now I have another question. Are the handicapped rooms all with roll in showers and king beds. I don't need that shower and I have to have 2 beds for 3 of us

There are two levels of handicap accessible rooms. I'm afraid I don't remember what they are officially called. The higher level has the roll-in shower and I believe all of those have only the single king-size bed. The lower level of access rooms have additional grab bars in the bathroom around the tub and toilet but not the roll-in shower. Some of these have two beds. You can always request a shower chair, even in a regular room, and I think they can install a hand held shower head in any room on request as well, but I may be wrong on that. Talk to the special request reservation people and tell them what you need. They should be able to set you up.
