If you rent an e book through your library, does it just go away after rental period expires or do you have manually return it. I am trying to figure out how to use it and it states I have one rented but no where does it state return. I just don't want to incur late charges

At my towns library you have it for 14 days. Our site has no way to return it early and you are limited to a total of 5 ebooks per card. I make sure I never have more than 4 at one time. If I get an email that something on my list becomes available I only have 24 hours to collect. By only having out 4 I can always collect my list item.

I have a Kindle and after I'm finished with a borrowed library book I have to go to "manage my Kindle" to return the book and then manually remove it from my list. Otherwise, it will stay on the Kindle ready to re-download.

My library uses overdrive. You can choose a 7, 14 or 21 day rental. If you finish early you can return through "manage my kindle" on amazon, otherwise it will disappear on the due date.

I have a Kindle too and the library network lets you choose 7,14,21 borrowing. I did figure out that I can "return" the book via Amazon and keep it to finish as long as I don't turn on the wifi on my Kindle. a couple of times it took me an extra day or 2 to finish the book.

i have a nook color with overdrive. I can select 7,14 or 21 days and when I'm finished I just tap the bar next to the book name and it gives me the option to return and remove it from my nook. Before overdrive became available the book title would be in my library but if I tapped it a message would come up saying it was no longer available.

Our library only lends ebooks for 14 day periods. At the end of the 14 days, the lending period ends without you having to do anything. The book may still appear on your devices, but you no longer have access to the book. You cannot incur late charges because the library automatically takes it back on the day it is due.

Since every library does things a little differently, I would suggest calling your library to find out what happens at the end of the lending period to see if you have to worry about "returning" the book.
