For a three night value season cruise last year, points were 67......per person. That was the least expensive point wise, and of course other staterooms in different seasons can be 400-500 points. You will find lots of oppinions on this site that DCL is not the most effective way to use points. Most people stick to the DVC resorts because you can stay a whole week at Animal Kingdon Villas in a value studio for about 73 points....and a studio holds 4 people. Most people pay cash for the cruise and use points at the resorts. Other hotels in NYC and Washingto DC are expensive point wise also. The only calculator I know of is on the DVC member website. Anyone else know of a calculator??
Actually looking at it again. The 67 points was for one person and each additional person starting at age 3 and ranged from 37-46 points each. Under 2 yrs was 18 points. Hope this helps.
The number of points required changes every year because DVC has to negotiate with DCL for the cruise. Don't buy your DVC points with the plan to use them for the cruise line. One in a blue moon, maybe, but not on a regular basis. You'll get a better return on your points using them for DVC reservations. Plus for every reservation outside of DVC, you have to pay a $95 transfer fee.
Thanks for the info. I am planning to use the points at the resort most of the time. However, I was considering the possibility of a land/sea vacation and didn't know how the points would work out for something like that.
