Question about DVC members using Moderate Resorts.....

Again new to all this. I obviously see that there are no points charts for moderate resorts, so I can assume that Moderate's are not included with DVC points utilization.

Are there any discounts for DVC members with rack room rates with moderates. If so what are they?

Thanks

Yes, Moderate Resorts may be reserved using DVC points. The point charts are similar to 1BR stays at DVC resorts.

There are no opportunities to use DVC points at Value Resorts and no cash discounts for DVC members staying at any resorts other than DVC resorts.

That is AWESOME!! I was hoping for mods to be used. I plan on using most points for Oct trip and then finish up last 60 pts in March and pay rack room rate on moderate rate.

Thanks so much for the good news.

If I remember correctly, isn't there a $95 charge now also?

A studio is almost half the points of a moderate. It would be silly to get a ressie at a moderate for twice the price of a studio or the same price as a one BR. I checked OKW only, I'm sure the others are higher but using points for a moderate would be crazy in most situations.

I don't think it's silly. :) Some people, like ourselves, want to try each of the Disney Resorts. Of course being brand new DVC members, we;ll be trying all the DVC resorts first! That should keep us busy for awhile.

Can someone remind me what the $95 fee was for? I remember our agent telling us about it, but now what it was for. Thanks!

The $95 fee is a surcharge for all non-DVC reservations using points (except stays at DL resorts).

If you have an annual pass, don't forget to ask about any discounts. You're probably better off using points at DVC and paying cash for moderates. Hopefully, they'll bring back the free dining specials to help value of paying cash. If you're interested in a cruise, there is a great sale on 7 day Land/Sea packages starting at $699pp, many/most Sep-Nov sailings, which include 3 or 4 days at moderate hotel, park tickets, AND 4 or 3 day cruise.

If I have lets say 60 pts left of DVC points then I basically would get two days for free and then have to pay for the final 5 days.

My wife is a travel agent and has a code that allows her to take 50% of rack room rate so I would be paying only have of the room rates.

I was thinking of go to a moderate, because it would be cheaper room rates that I would be paying in the end.

Is that not right or is there another way to do it in a deluxe rate where is almost equals out.

What is rack room rate for OKW in March??

Thanks

Most of us would move or play cash at OKW for the rest of the trip. Moving isn't tough, and your points would go a lot farther at a DVC resort.

Well, since you could stay more nights in a DVC studio on the same points, I think that you will about break even and have a much nicer room. Your wife will probably still get 50% off the rack rate of the studio too. Ask her to find out. I bet she can at OKW or SSR.

For Example: In March a studio at OKW is only 11 points on weekdays. You could stay 5 nights with 5 points left over. Then you pay only 2 nights on cash. (Note: If your wife can't get 50% off, you may be able to get 25% through DVC.) During March the moderates are 22 points on the weekdays. This allows you only 2 nights with 16 points left. Then you have to pay for 5 nights. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I forgot to add that there will be 5 of us. Me, DW, DD (7), DD (5), and DS
(3).

I thought I could not stay in a studio with 5 people. Personally my wife and I would be fine in a studio for Disney trip #2 due to our kids pretty much sneak in and sleep in our beds now every night. :))):scared1:

Is there anyway to swing that? Because then it would be a no brainer.

Thanks.

I don't think the moderates sleep more than 4 either. An OKW studio is going to be a lot bigger than a room at a moderate. I don't want to turn this into an occupancy thread, but I believe that you are ok with the youngest being 3 or under.

The points chart for non-DVC WDW resports are available in the Disney Collection section of the Member site, at least for 2008.

The cheapest points for a moderate room is 16 points, Sun/Thu, Standard View in Value Season.

The "seasons" at the non-DVD resorts don't correspond to those for DVC, but by comparison, a studio at OKW for Sun/Thu at the most expensive time is 15 points. And I believe its by far a better room. Its as low as 8 points.

For the cheapest price of the Poly or GF, you could get a Grand Villa.

And that still doesn't account for the $95. Heck, that alone will nearly get you a night at the Pop...

The only reason I can really see us using points like that is if we simply have to burn some points and its the only way, but that seems very unlikely.

We'd like to stay at all the resorts at some point as well, but I think we are more likely to pay out of pocket for a couple nights for those. I'm thinking of doing that next April to avoid the Friday/Saturday surcharge.
