Question about DVC Kitchens

We are considering joining DVC but have a question about their kitchens. I am a bit of neat freak when it comes to kitchens. I typically do not like to stay in hotels with kitchenettes, because, for me, they are often not clean enough. How are the kitchens in the DVC rooms? Are they really clean? The fridge, counters, sink, microwave? What about the kitchen tools (pots, pans, etc) that they have there (or do they have this kind of thing)?

I just know that if the kitchens are not really clean, not only will I not use the kitchen, but it may make me uncomfortable during our stay. I fully realize that this is a bit neurotic on my part, but none-the-less how I am.

What about using points for non-DVC rooms? Does it make sense to do that, or is it a waste of points (i.e. do you use a lot more points to stay non-DVC vs. DVC).

I'm not a complete neat freak, but I've never had an issue w/ the cleanliness of the kitchens or any of their components.

As for using points for non-DVC rooms, it is generally not a good trade-off. First the points per night is much higher than staying in a DVC location, and second, there is the $95 fee you have to pay to stay in a non-DVC location.

only 1-bdrms and larger have true full kitchens (stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher) the studios have just the basic kitchenette, small fridge, mic...

However we have always found the kitchen to be very clean on check in, my DW was a little dubious as well at first, but all the plates, pans,flatware all appear to be completely clean with no residue, fridge and oven clean, clean clean! even the toasters are crumb free

We've had a few issues with dishes/silverware not being clean. So the first thing we do upon arrival is load the "clean" dishes into the dishwasher and rewash everything. It sounds like a pain, but it takes only a few minutes to load up and the dishwasher does the rest of the work. And of course, we no longer have to wonder if the dishes really were washed before we arrived.

In nearly 30 stays we have never had much of an issue with the kitchens at OKW except for one time. That time, I think the mousekeeper did not wash all the dishes like she should have. It was easily fixed though, with a quick run of the dishwasher. We have never had a dirty fridge or stove.

I've always found the kitchens to be immaculate. We also run the silverware, glasses and plates through the d/w to be on the safe side though.

We have always had clean kitchens with the exception of an occasional cracker under the table or crumbs on the counter, until this past summer. We checked into OKW on three separate stays and had problems every time. The worst was the first unit we checked into which had obviously not been cleaned and had rusty pans and melted cheese hanging from the back of the oven rack. It was disgusting and we demanded to have the entire unit recleaned. Housekeeping is not what it used to be and we will never eat off the dishes again without washing them ourselves.

If you are a bit neurotic about cleanliness, you may be unhappy with any WDW resort and the theme parks as well. Live a little dangerously and leave that Lysol at home.

It may just be me, but when we go to check out, I put all the dishes in the dishwasher and start it running for mousekeeping.

We always run the dishwasher when we leave, too. I'm not a neat freak, and I can't say I've thoroughly examined everything in the kitchens when I check in, but I've never seen any dirty dishes or any appliances that didn't look clean to me. Our units have always looked very nice and clean.

I know its not normal, but the way I am. I have never had a problem staying in any of the regular Disney hotels, but I am definitely a bit neurotic when it comes to stuff envolving food. I just really need it very clean to be comfortable, relaxed and able to enjoy the vacation. An oven with melted cheese in it would REALLY bother me for the rest of the trip.

We have (rarely) found lipstick on glasses, but nothing worse.

A quick hand wash and into the DW. Then, forgotten........

Thanks for the dishwasher tip..We will be staying in a 1bdrm for the first time this November. I am normally a clean freak but I try to leave all my phobias at home while at my "other" home.

Hi Michele,

DW here. Your probably going to run the dishes through the washer when you arrive (even if they look clean, simply to set your mind at ease). The first thing I do is check the kitchen and bathroom to make sure the room is clean and everything is accounted for; before we even open our suitcases. I want the mic, range and fridge clean and also the bathroom, before I settle in. Last year we didnt have a frying pan, so I called right away and they brought me a new one, still in the pkg. They supply your kitchen with soaps and dish towel/ clothes as well. DH works in food safety ;-) , he is worse then me, and never had any issues with our stays so far!!!
I believe if I was concerned about what the rooms looked like,( and that might hold me back from the purchase) I would let my seller know this, and if it meant a sale or not, they would see to it, that you could visit a room or two.
