For those who have done it...

The sales lady at my bridal shop told me that if i had the dress steamed the day of the wedding it would still be wet. It seems that Carolyn Allens often comes the day of the wedding and I haven't heard any one mention this before.

So after your dress was steamed was it still wet? Should I have them do it the day before instead?

hi there i have got carolyn allen coming to do my dress and the bridesmaid dresses at 6.30am on the morning of my wedding. the ceremony is at 11am and they never mentioned that the dress would be wet. I cant imagine that it will be......well i hope not! x

can someone please give me carolynns number. everyone seems to love her but, i dont have a number or wesite for her. i want my dress steemed too :)

Perhaps it depends on the material. My dress was all tulle and we had no problems. However, my mother's was satin as well as my bridesmaids and Carolyn Allen's steamed ALL of them. None of them were wet. THey're not cleaning it, just getting the wrinkles out... Good idea to call and ask. Good luck!!! :thumbsup2

Absolutely Fitting is a vendor (they do tuxes for Disney weddings too) that also does steaming and they did a fabulous job on my wedding dress and the officiants robe (family friend).

They are on the approved vendor listing from Disney and their contact information is 1-800-650-4889

I second "Absolutely Fitting". When my dress was completely unpacked on my wedding day, there was a make-up stain on the skirt (to my complete horror). The steaming lady from Absolutely Fitting got the stain completely out of the dress. She was soooooooooooo nice, professional and efficient. None of the dresses were wet; I'm not sure why your bridal salon would worry you like that.:confused3 I've never even heard of that being a problem.

How much does it cost for the companies to come out and steam your dress the day of the wedding? Has anyone NOT had their dress steamed?

Carolyn came about 4 hours before the wedding and it was not wet at all, not even after she finished. She did a fantastic job and also touched up my Mom's suit for her since it was hanging up in the bedroom.

My bridal shop pressed my dress before I took it home, and told me to NEVER GO NEAR IT WITH STEAM! They told me that the fabric would buckle from the steam...and that it was best just to let it hang from it's hanger, and leave it alone until the day of the wedding. And the dress was just fine for the wedding day, even when it was stuffed from one car to another to get to the wedding site.:cutie:

carolyn steamed my dress 3 hours before my wedding-- i probobly had it on 1.5 hours after she left (took her 30min. and i had it on 1 hr before ceremony for photos). not wet at all--this is the first ive heard of that... gl:thumbsup2

Do you mind sharing what material your dress is made out of? I have read that certain materials shouldn't be steamed.

Hi! My dress was an Alencon lace top, a silk organza skirt (with four petti coats underneath), and a silk satin sash.

Thanks everyone for clearing that up!! My dress is mostly satin as many of you have experienced so I will not worry about that! One more stress to cross fof the list.

If you do go with Carolyn Allen's they ask you what material your dress is made out of. If I remember correctly, anything that is silk shouldn't be steamed, otherwise it will pucker. Carolyn Allen's will use an alternative way of getting wrinkles out of your dress if that's the case. If in doubt, just tell the person steaming your dress what material it's made out of. That should save you a lot of problems in the end if the steamer knows their stuff! ;)

How much was it for the steaming? And I've steamed a LOT of things, having worked in retail. The garmet should not be wet afterwards, or there may be a problem with the steamer....;)
