Our family is going staying at POR for December free dining. Its probably a strange question but here goes anyway. We really would rather have quick service than the regular dining plan is there some way we can downgrade?

If you stay in a value you would get the QD free there. At the moderate you get the regular dining. However, you can use the TS at QS...is a waste of $ but if that is what you want you can do it.
There are so many neat TS if you want a few...like "Ohana at the Poly. is so good & it is fun too, Coral Reef & LeCellier are good too.
Tusker House Safari breakfast at AK is yummy & fun.
And it is fun to get a reservation at Crystal Palace at MK before the park opens.
Wherever you end up eating...have fun!!

only if you downgrade resort to a value resort.

Did you look at maybe betting a room discount instead, and just paying cash for the QSDP? Don't know if there's decent discounts out for Dec. yet, but could be a room discount on a moderate might save you more anyway.

People keep reporting that you can use a TS at a CS...I think this is a bit misleading, because it is not always so (and nowhere in the brochure does it say this is how the dining plan works. The Deluxe plan, yes -- meal credits can be used at either TS or CS...but the regular dining plan, no: specifies 1 TS & 1 QS, 1 Snack per night per person.) We've been doing the dining plans for years, and that exchange being allowed has not been our experience at all, except during the Aug-September free dining (when they had signs up about it due to a shortage of TS) The rest of the time, it's not so easy. We have been behind people in line at cash register in the parks while people tried to talk them into taking a TS credit...were flat out told No, the system would not allow it.

We have seen people allowed to use TS at resort counter service, but a manager type came over & did some sort of over-ride on the cash register.

Thanks for the responses. We really would rather do QS we have 4 kids so getting to so many table service meals is a hassle not to mention sitting through it with them. And then we feel like we miss out on park time. We've done the dining plan twice with three kids and it was to stressful, we just want a very laid back vacation this time.
We can't do value because we have to many kids! lol! The two snacks really apeal to us also. I'll have to figure on how it would work out if we paid for the QS and got a room discount. But I kind of doubt it would be worth it.

During free dining time you should have much problem. And who cares what max value you get if it's what you want to eat and it is technically a free add on anyway?

We've traded in TS credits at WPE with no problem.
You could also do the option of burning through the TS credits with having 2 or 3 2-credit meals, ordering pizza (ick) which is 2 credits and then just buyins a few things if you need them.

2 connecting rooms at a value with free dining on both might be another option and pretty much the same price...plus more space to stretch out and 2 bathrooms!
