This is a serious question. I do believe OBL is dead. I do not believe in conspiracy theories.

All I want to know is how did they do a DNA test that fast? I only know about DNA testing from watching TV (stop laughing) and it always seems to take weeks for the results.

I have no idea about the technical ins and outs of DNA testing.

I do know that most of the time delays in legal cases regarding DNA and other lab-related evidence are because of tremendous backlogs in crime labs, even in major murder cases.

Im thinking the US Government has some clout to wake up the best DNA lab and bump this to the top of their list of things to do!

I was wondering the same thing as well. Maybe the government has a fast-track with DNA testing?

It actually only takes acouple of hours to run a comparision to a known sample, which is what they were doing. THe weeks it takes in normal situations is becuase of lab backlogs, ect

Because it's the government. I know that sounds flip, and that's not how I mean it to sound, but I'm sure the facilities and procedures are more advanced (and available at a moments notice) then typical crime labs.

I have the same question, it's been a while like 15-20 years since I worked in a lab. I worked at the front desk at a major hospital, but if I can remember right it does take weeks to get DNA results. So what's up???:confused3

Now they might have improved over the years, but it didn't even take a day. Not even hours from what they are saying.

The delay in most testing isn't the process but the backlog. When the CIA or whomever it was in this case walks into your lab with a priority you stop everything and do that test right then and there.

Also, the test on his sister's brain had been done so they had the reference sample's results already for comparison. In many cases they are not only running a test on the DNA in question but also on all the reference subjects.

lol, snappy, that is where I get my dna information, too. :) I won't laugh at you!

I wonder if the DNA tech knew whose DNA it was. I imagine there was a HUGE red flag attached to that sample.

Oh!

It had to take a little time. They had to take the DNA from Pakistan to a reliable lab. Where do they airlift the wounded troops in Pakistan?

OK, I thought the sample had to "develop" or something, like growing in a test tube. Like I said, I know nothing about the real process.

I know the lab we use it only takes 24 -48 hours to get results with a paid rush & can get them in 12 once they are recvied at the lab.

Just promise me that when you say you get it from TV it's not from Maury or Jerry Springer. :lmao:

That's a good question! You know we don't really know the time line on this, like how long it was before they did get results. That is from the time he died to the time they really got those results.

I promise, never watch that trash!

It seems that as soon as they announced the death, they were simultaneously saying it was proven to be him with dna results. How long between the shooting and actual announcement?

That answers my question! thank you!

I hadn't thought about that. I think for the lab tech doing the dna testing, it might feel rather.....strange (for lack of a better word) knowing that it's OBL's dna that you were testing.

In the initial announcement they said they had taken samples for DNA, didn't announce the match.

I think they performed the test right on the ship, likely part of the preparation for the mission was making sure they had the sister's sample results with them.
