Question about Disney Vacation Club at Disney World

Hi, I have a question about DVC at Disney World. I went the informational meeting to ask them about their Membership pricing and they said "They price match other competitors offerings when signing up for Disney Vacation Club."

I thought Disney Vacation Club could only be purchased at Disney World. Are there other companies or organizations that offer a cheaper rate? I also recall seeing something where DVC Members sell their property in the DVC Program. (I'm not referring to Points like David's Vacation Club, I saw something where people were actually selling their Membership.)

Can anyone provide a bit more information on this?

Try the DVC Ownership board. You can buy DVC on the resale market. Owners may sell their entire ownership themselves or more often through a third party (realtor basically). There are a number of caveats and complications, so check out the DVC boards for more info.

They said that? Wowzers. Seriously not true.

They could have been referring somewhat to "right of first refusal", which means if someone is selling for a price DVC deems is too low (for a property and amount of points they want to sell direct to someone), they will take it for that price (and it will not go to the buyer that made the offer). But that's nowhere near what they said to you as a prospective buyer.

Before going any further in the decision process you need to take several weeks to really read through all the primers and info and threads (both annoyed and happy with DVC) to find out if it's something that really works for you. Then decide if buying direct is something you need.

And, apparently, ignore everything that salesperson (er, "guide", ha ha) said to you!

I definitely recommend you visit the DVC purchase board on here before making a move. It doesn't sound like you were provided credible information.

Hi Aaron, Welcome to the Dis! Def check out the DVC forums here, you'll get plenty of help. DVC can be a many-headed beast, but I'm certain there's no "price matching."

In a shock to no one, the timeshare salesperson was lying. Disney's prices are what they are. There's no price matching. The "bonus double" points they "give" you are what you are owed in your contract. And, despite what the salespeople tell you, Disney doesn't sell resale contracts, it sells contracts for the so-called sold-out resorts at exorbitant prices -- typically about twice what you would pay on the actual resale market.

Definitely visit the DVC board. It was a good deal to buy direct from Disney a decade ago, but now it's far more worth it to buy resale for the same room.

Do your research before buying and please do a financial spreadsheet to understand the costs. There are a few good websites that sell resale DVC memberships. We have bought two from different websites and they were about half of the price of Disney direct. I would never ever buy directly from Disney nor could I ever justify the cost (I work in finance and dos the math). It is a huge commitment and I recommend doing a lot of online research before buying.
