Question about Disney transportation to cruise terminal

We have a 4-night booked for the end of April leaving out of Cape Canaveral. We are looking at some hotel options for a night or two before boarding. My question is, how can you qualify for Disney transportation from resort to cruise ship? Do you have to have park tickets or can you just stay in a resort for a few nights and then be transported to the ship? Ideally we would fly into Orlando, take the Magical Express to a Disney resort (one or two nights, not sure yet), and then take Disney transportation to the cruise terminal on Monday. However, we do not want to purchase park tickets. We just want to spend a few days relaxing at the resort, Disney Springs, shopping, etc. before the cruise. Any help would be appreciated!!

As long as you're staying at any of the WDW hotels on property, you qualify for the DCL transfers. Of course you have to pay the $35 per person each way, but you don't need park tickets.

You do not have to go to the parks before going to the port but you do have to pay (per person) to take the bus to the port.

The only "requirements" to take DCL transfers from a WDW resort, is you must be staying at a WDW resort, and you must have a cruise booked. As noted, it's $35.00 per person each way (WDW/port; port/MCO).

Leaving out of Cape Canaveral will make your trip a lot more than 4 nights, you will be on a space shot. :rotfl2: Sorry couldn't help myself. Cape is about 12 miles from Port Canaveral. Seriously though we stay at BWV prior to cruises and take Disney Transportation to port, and then to airport after cruise. We really enjoy the onboard flight check in on the ship and like not having to do anything with our luggage, we see it at out home airport.

You actually don't have to have a reservation at a WDW resort for the trip back after the cruise. I didn't in July and had no problems.

Did you have to give post cruise information that you were going to XX resort on the online check in? I've always been told that you can't get DCL transfers to a WDW resort, unless you've got a reservation there.

Actually what happened was I changed it on the ship. I was originally set to go to the airport but went to GS on the ship and said I wanted to go to the parks instead and asked if I could switch. They said no problem. When I got off the ship I just said I wanted to go to one of the Epcot resorts to meet a CM friend of mine and they pointed me to the Boardwalk/Swan & Dolphin bus.
