Question about discounts

I have a question about the new discounts out. If I already hold a reservation, can the discount just be applied? Or do I have to re-book with a new reservation with the discount? I don't want to take the chance on loosing my YC club level reservation especially since there are no deluxe resorts available for my stay in October.

Thanks for the help.

If your current reservation is for Room Only and the discount you want to apply is also for Room Only, they will just apply the discount and you will keep your same reservation.

If you have a Room Only and the discount is for a package, those are different types of reservations and your current one would have to be cancelled.

The same goes is you have a Package and the discount you want to apply is for Room Only. Your package would have to be cancelled and a new reservation for Room Only would be created.

Hope this helps.

Yes, but to be clear, there has to be availability for the OP's dates for the discount in order to have it applied.

You can call and ask them to check for availablity for your dates with the current RO discount and if they dont have it they will leave your reservation the way it is. I have done that twice in the past couple weeks.Just tell them you want to check first before changing anything. The best thing to do is go check on the Disney site to see if its available for your dates. Go to the upper right hand drop down menu and click on specials and go check. If you see what you want call right away to change it to the discount.

This isn't necessarily true. If you have a pkg and want to keep the tickets and dining if you have that the discount can be applied to the room portion of the pkg without having to rebook as long as there is availability for the discount at your resort

Disney has 2 types of reservations, room only and packages. The numbering systems are different (room only reservations have 12 numbers, packages have 1 number, 2 letters, 5 numbers) the deposits are different, the payment deadlines are different.
Room only reservation numbers look like this 123456789112
Package reservation numbers look like this 1AB12345
.
If you want to apply a discount to an existing reservation and change nothing else, your reservation number will stay the same, and any moneys you have paid will still show as paid and you'll get confirmation showing your new, lower amt. due.
The glitch comes w/ changing from a room only to a package or vice versa, in that case you'll get a new reservation number, you'll typically have to put a new deposit down and your previously paid moneys will be refunded to you (although I've read of cases were people were able to have the moneys transferred from one type to the other.)
Just having a reservation does not guarentee that a new discount can be applied to your existing reservation, if there is availability w/ the discount (eg: your room type is part of the discount offer) then you can have the discount applied.
As a pp mentioned, checking online through the discount link on WDW's website is a good way to check to see if your room category/resort has rooms available under any new discount offers. However, it doesn't hurt to call and ask a CM to check as well (I did this mon. and even though what I wanted hadn't shown up on the computer, the CM found availability.)
Also, it helps to keep checking - what I wanted was not available initially back in 2010, but several weeks later it became available.

As others have said, as long as there is availability for your resort/room type under the discount, it can easily be applied. With that said, having a reservation already in place does not guarantee that a discount can be applied. Sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type in order to take advantage of a discount.
