Question about DDP and tipping

We were on free dining last September, so the 18% REALLY didn't bother me. We did not see a "decrease" in service due to the fact that the server knew what they would be getting, or due to the fact we were on the DDP. In fact, I believed the servers were trying extra hard to provide outstanding service, so the gratuity would go up! We did carry extra cash, and at each table service meal we left an extra gratuity. We experienced superior service at O'Hanas (Dinner), at CRT (dinner), and at the Princess Storybook Dininig (lunch).

We are more comfortable with tipping 20-25% for good service, so we made sure to carry a little extra cash on us to tip extra where warranted. We had great service our last 2 trips, and left extra at all but one restaurant (out of 16).

This was actually a major put off of the dining plan for me. It's going to save us a boat load of money based on my calculations, but I don't agree with the having to include an 18% tip regardless of the service.
Okay, figure it this way: The average price of a snack is $3.00. The average price of a Counter Service meal is $12 with tax. Fifteen from $38.99 is $23.99. If your Table Service choices total $22.53 or more, before tax, NONE of your Dining Plan money is being paid as tip. Disney’s accounting is, sure – but no cent of your $38.99 is the tip. Feel better? :teeth:

This will be another thing me an DM will be having debates about. I always leave at least 20% unless the service is really horrible, she thinks 15% is enough, so does my DD(ad,) (her DH.) :sad2:

That's another good thing about eating out with BF, (who should come to Disney with me,) he always tips about 30%, and once left a 150% tip.

Personally my tip range is generally:
5% or less for bad service
10% for less than average service
15% for normal
20% if they excel

If given something free I generally will leave an additional tip in the amount of the free item.

I really think that 18% is an excellent tip and nothing more should be added unless the server did something special.

I just have a question? So if you usually tip 20%, how much do you leave on the table (or give the server). Do you leave $2 making up the 2% difference of the 18% that is included with the DDP? Sorry, but I am just not that good at math. :) I feel bad because I have used the DDP since it started, and I have never left a tip. I will definitely leave tips this year, but I just didn't know how to do it.
