Hi everyone! My daughter just got her letter for custodial. She is torn because she and I really do not know what all this entails doing. She is a freshman in college and has NEVER had a job. She is very outgoing and a huge disney fan. She also has years of drama/vocal experience but did not even mention it in her interview. So, anyone have any experience with the custodial role? She and I kind of picture it involving a lot of toilet cleaning, barf and stink. Is that so?

In a word, yes, that's Custodial.

However, Custodial also involves a lot of Guest Interaction. Custodial CMs are normally among the first CMs our Guests turn to for information.

Here's the Role Description:

Walt Disney World College Program said:
Custodial

Responsibilities may include:

  • High Guest interaction while working independently
  • Extensive cleaning - including restrooms and toilets
  • Working with cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Bussing tables in restaurants and outdoors
  • Sweeping and mopping
  • Emptying trashcans, lifting heavy garbage bags
  • Driving pargo (golf) carts
  • Vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning pool decks
  • Providing Guest information
  • Standing for extended periods, working outdoors

The paper she got that said she was custodial should have in full detail, all of what the job entails. I personally have never done custodial but i've heard from people who have. Yes, it does involve cleaning toilets but it also involves a lot of guest interaction and exploring the park more than alot of other jobs would. I've recently been accepted and got parking lot attendant/ cashier. Not my top choice by any means but Disney, i am sure is a fun environment to work in, no matter what position you're in. I'm sure she'll make the best of it and do just fine!. Hope i could help.

after reading some of the other roles. The duties may actually be well worth the amount of freedom and guest interaction available. I read another persons thread called the happiest summer on earth and it was a really positive opinion about that persons experiences in custodial. I guess I'll know soon if she decides to accept.

The vomit and toilet thing is a turn-off, but everybody I know that has done custodial has said that they got over that part of it, so I take their word for it.

A while back I asked my friend, who did custodial and loved it, how she dealt with people messing up the facilities while she was trying to clean them because personally, that would make me bitter. She told me “I don’t know, I just talk to the people while they’re washing their hands or coming or going…ask them how they’re doing, how their day is…and I like that.”

She had a good attitude, and she loved the job.

Congratulations to your daughter!

Custodial really isn't too bad. I did it in 2007, and enjoyed it. The cleaning part wasn't too bad. There is a lot of freedom and guest interaction, which is nice. Congrats to your daughter.

I'm a Character Performer, but Custodial was my number 2 choice (no pun intended)

I feel that Custodial workers really are what makes or breaks the experience there. If a Custodial worker isn't into what they are doing, they can rip a visitor right out of the experience - on the flip side if they are totally into it and feeling the Disney vibe, it just reinforces the Magic.

I imagine there is a ton of freedom and self reliance. The main reasons I picked CP and Custodial was that it's all about the one-on-one interaction with the guests.

Tell your daughter not to be discouraged and to just go with it!

One of my friends was custodial and he loved it. he was able to take more breaks, wander around. half the time He would come to where I worked and we'd stand outside talking. You get to watch parades and talk to guests a lot. An be outside in the sunny Florida weather!! (if it isn't pouring haha) It's really not bad!

My daughter clicked accept at 2 o'clock this morning. She is so excited and I am very envious! Your comments were so helpful and I truely believe this is an incredible learning opportunity for her.
Thanks Again!!!!!:dance3:
