Question about credit card

The cardholder agreements I've seen say things like "can request but not require ID" and "cannot make ID a condition of acceptance". I really think it depends on the merchant and how they wish to protect themselves in the end.

Must be older agreements. Currently there are many state/federal laws that specifically allow for ID checks and minimum purchase requirements. Those take precedence over merchant agreements, and I'm pretty sure they've been dropped from the language.

I knew I could count on you. :)

I used to use my bosses' charge cards all the time to buy stuff for the office, pick up food, etc. Company policy was to sign "his/her name/my initials". That showed who actually used the card. The interesting thing was that their pictures were on the cards and I was never, ever questioned about the use (especially the card that belonged to a 6'3" Black ex-football player, which I obviously wasn't...)

Yep. I used my Mom's a few times to grocery shop for her when she was homebound, and I asked the cashier at the grocery store, who told me to sign MY own name. I guess if there was ever a question about the validity of the charge, when they look back they can see who signed the signature pad and go from there to investigate.

But to be honest, most places would probably never even notice if the name on the card matched the signature on the capture...I almost always use the self check out and pay with the CC, and with the electronic signature thing, the signature I sign never looks ANYTHING like my actual signature. even when you go to a cashier, many times they don't even require you to sign anymore (Walgreens, I mean YOU) if it's under like $50, and even when you do sign, the cashier never touches the card, so how would he even know if the name matched?
Just to add, the product i bought from the Michaels store was just photo frame (Less than $20)

I was going to say if the amount is low enough most places don't even ask for signature or check the card. And I have "see id" on the back and a woman actually argued with me when I went to give her my id. She said "Oh our store policy says to ignore the see id". Um what?

So ya, there is no real safety to who uses your card. And I definitely agree I can scribble whatever I want on the pad and no one cares.
I'm tempted to try signing "Minnie Mouse" and see if they notice.
However those that do actually touch my card love the Disney design. Gives me a chance to brag about my next vacation.
LOL you should have heard me talking to the AAA person today. I knew more than her about WDW. LOL Glad I don't ask them to book for me.
Was a little disappointing they didn't know much about Aruba either. hmmmm what do they know? Oooops off topic.
