OK, watching extreme couponing, and while I am NOT an extreme couponer, I do have a question...where do these people get the high value coupons?? Like 4.69 off of a 12 pack of soda and then have 20 of them?! Or have 50 of the same coupons? Looking to jump on the coupon wagon here and would like a little help!

Most likely they have printed coupons or have bought/gotten multiple copies of the same coupon. You can only print one copy of a coupon per computer. How they get the 4.69 off the soda, I have no clue. Unless it came from the manufacturer for some reason.

To make the most you want to some the flyers, buyer programs and find stores that double/triple coupons. You do have to read the coupons. I have found coupons that limit the number of ones used in one transaction and some limit what you can double/triple up to. You will also need to know the store policy on coupons and if you have a credit what will they do.

Good luck

they either buy them on e-bay, or from a Q clipping service for penny's on the dollar

or trade with other Q users.

U can also pay for them on coupon site from red plum etc. I coupon but not that extreme at all! to me its like hording when you have all that stuff in a garage for petes sake! me Im good with haveing a few extra staples and a few extra pet upplies along with health and beaty sock piles ! :dance3:

I would imagine they have called the manufacturer and they have responded with free coupons or the high dollar ones.

Also remember it's called EXTREME for a reason. Most people don't go to the extremes that some of these people do. Also, some stores have limits on how many coupons you can use. And a lot of the stores don't double coupons (at least not around our area) and some don't allow you to get overages. SOOOO...couponing can be great but don't expect to get $798.42 worth of groceries for $2.49 the first week. :goodvibes

I coupon and am happy to have 8 or 10 coupons per grocery trip.

The coupon websites I visit always strongly suggest you write the manufacturer of your favorite brands telling them how much you love their products and sometimes they will send you high value coupons or coupons for free product.

I edited to add: I've never done that, so I don't know if it really works. They do it weekly.

I get high value coupons by emailing the companies. I am not an extreme couponer, but I try to have a coupon for almost everything that I buy. I get my coupons off the internet using multiple computers, I buy 3 to 4 sunday papers, I am a part of a coupon train and from family. I have a family a of 6and couponing allows us to do a lot of fun things like go to Disney!

A great way to get started with couponing is join a coupon train. I get a lot of great coupons from my train buddies. It is also a good way to get rid of coupons that you don't use.

Though I am only a family of 2, you sound like me. I print coupons from home, then at work. And I normally buy 2 papers a week. I tend to only buy whats on sale when I can use a coupon with it. I should clarify that because people will comment about fresh fruit and veggies and meat. Yes, I buy those things without a coupon.

I completely base my weekly menu by whats on sale though. I hit 2 stores (both within 3 miles from my job and I do my shopping at lunch time).

My daughter who will be 7 this month enjoys matching the coupon to the product on the shelf. She feels like such a helper.

I tend to save 40 to 50% a week with coupons and sales. All to be used that week for dinners and my lunches. Her breakfast and lunch is provided by the daycare.

I was watching the Extreme Couponing show the other night too and it baffled me how the mother got 160 Almond Milks for a few pennies - those are super expensive. Even if she had a manufacturers coupon for a good deal off how could she get 160 cartons? The math just doesn't add up. And I'm shocked that the store doesn't have a limit to how much you can "buy"

And what does one do with all of that perishable milk???

I live in the Northeast and at least here in CT - our grocery stores limit how many coupons you can use and also limit how many of a store sale item you can have. Sometimes it's a limit of 1!! Here coupons under $1 automatically double at some grocery stores but I've never gotten an item for free even with the doubling coupons - even when I've combined it with a store sale.

Hmmm...

This would never work for me and where I live. The places near me only double coupons up to $1 and most of the time they limit how many items you can buy (2 or 4). I would never be able to buy a cartful of something that is already on sale. But, I still cut my coupons and try to save as best as I can. I do envy those that are able to do it.

You have to remember that those are reality shows and reality shows are not known for their honesty. Lots of stuff gets staged and I have to believe it happens on the coupon shows as well. So I have my doubts about a lot that goes on with those shows. In real life things are just not that easy.

If you've been inspired after watching Extreme Couponing, then the first thing you should do is ignore everything you've ever seen on the show. Much of it isn't grounded in reality.

It's well known that for the sake of the show stores will sometimes overlook rules they typically have in place (like max # of an item at a discount, or how many coupons they'll double, things like that).

For many of the people on the show, they have friends/family who know they're into couponing who give them all their extra coupons. Some dumpster dive for newspapers. The list goes on.
