Does anyone know if you can substitute Egg Beaters for real eggs used in a recipe? I am in the middle of making lasagne for dinner tonight and my recipe calls for three eggs to be mixed into the ricotta cheese mixture and I only have one egg, but I do have Egg Beaters. Has anyone ever tried substituting and if so did your recipe turned out okay?

I substitute with the egg whites stuff and it works out pretty well.

I LOVE lasagne.....need a taste tester :p :D

I only cook with eggbeaters. I've never noticed a difference. I make lasagna with them all the time :) It will be yummy :) I only "splurge" for real eggs for something like scrambled eggs or an omelet (and I've found that eggbeaters omelets aren't too bad, either)

What???? Eggbeaters are a kitchen tool are they not????

So, enlighten me as to what an eggbeater is please:confused:

eggbeaters are egg substitute...they are made from egg whites, but they are pasteurized and contain no cholesterol. DH has high cholesterol so shouldn't eat many eggs, but I started using them before that, as my kids like to "lick the beaters" wen I bake, meaning to eat some dough raw, which isn't safe if you use real eggs. It's safe to eat eggbeaters raw, which is why I bake with it :) My kids can eat all the brownie, cookie, or cake dough they want (and I get cute messy face pics for the scrapbook ;))

Here's the website...it says they're 99% real eggs...wonder what that other 1% is? :p

"Eggbeaters" is a brand name. There are others, like Better'n Eggs, that are the same thing.

Oh, they are also convenient when halfing a recipe that calls for 1 egg, as you can measure out however much you need. My pancake recipe makes 14, but my dd's each usually eat only 1 or 2. So I 1/4 the recipe!

Cool, thanks for that Laurie, I've never heard of such a thing before.......guess that's because I'm an Aussie:D

You're welcome :) I noticed you were from Oz, and figured if you had egg substitute there it went by another name. I have a Kiwi friend and we have great fun finding out the different names our countries have for the same things - and the things one of us has that the other doesn't. And did you know when you flush the toilet, the water goes 'round in the opposite direction up here? LOL!!

Laurie

Oh yeah the toilet thing, I've heard that said & I do believe it is true;) Well in Alaska I'm fairly sure it is anyway.

Yeah us Aussie do have diff stuff to you guys.............you seem to have an answer for everything to save time in the kitchen:D

I've never heard of an egg substitute before & don't even know if we have one, but I'm going to go look now:)
