question about confirmation and legitimacy

I'm not sure if I am posting in the right place but I am in the process of working with someone on another rent board for a stay in March at Disney. I am a non-DVC member. I have been given a confirmation # by this person but everything I am reading says that if I call Disney, they won't talk to me because I am the renter and not the owner. How can I confirm this reservation? I of course don't want to be scammed before I send this person a deposit. For all I know she could have just sent me a bunch of numbers in an email and said it was a confirmation #. The other thing that I thought was odd is that the email this person sent had another persons name where the email address is. Strange I guess but not a deal breaker until I ask what is up with that.

I think there's a way to do a 3 way call with DVC member services. I bought points from owners from here and all went well but then again it wasn't a lot of money.

I would definitely use Paypal to protect yourself.

You can go to www.mydisneyreservation.com/dvc. Plug in the number you were given and it should come up.

But, you are correct, you are not allowed to talk to MS about the transaction and the person you are renting from will need to do make any changes or additions (DDP, ME, etc.) to the reservation for you.

A three way call can be easily faked by a good swindler.

Many members don't want to use Paypal because of fees or the possibility that they can be swindled out of their payment. But don't plan for them to be a travel agent.

Get to know the person you are renting from. Trade phone numbers and confirm that you can get in touch with them if you need them.
