Question About CM Room Discount

I am fortunate to know a CM, who has just offered to book a room for me with her discount!
I have read conflicting reports about exactly how this works. If I understand this correctly, based on availability, the CM can get us 40% off room only, even if she is not present when we are there? Some threads were not clear about the presence of the CM.

i would have your friend call and find out. if dh was at work or here right now i would have him check but i just called and asked him your questions. we booked online thru a special link, we cannot book via phone. according to my dh, a cast member. he needs to be present when checking in and getting the discount(his is higher then 40%). when we checked in on our last trip he did not bring his work ID and the person at the desk gave us a REALLy hard time and wouldnt let us check in with the CM rate without the ID. he finally showed him his CM yearly pass and they said ok. however we had to call and have a new ID Fed-ex to us at the hotel.

however a friend of mine, who is also a CM says she can get a discount for friends and family.

there may be different rules and discount rates for different disney companies(disney, abc and espn)

The discount depends on what is available. The CM needs to book it through the cast portal. The CM will need to show ID either before you check in or at check in for you to get the discounted room.

The CM does have to do the booking online but she can use your credit card info for the deposit so you will have to get that to her. In addition she will need to stop by the hotel within ten days prior to your visit to show them her ID and have it associated with your reservation (unless she is meeting you at check in).

my best friend books her rooms through her aunt who is a CM at MK and her aunt takes care of the reservations. she said it is a "family&friends" discount, and has never been with them on their trips or been ther for check-in and they never had an issue. I do know that they get room only at a discount and by using the discount they are not eligible for the dining plan or any park ticket discounts etc...so no packages. The PP has the right tip with having them check on the exact rules for the discount type they are using. good luck !
