Question about changing room reservations

Say I make a reservation now thru WDW reservations for AKL and I get the AAA discount. When the AP rates come out (assuming the rate is lower) do I just ask Disney reservations to make the change to my existing reservation or do I have to get a new reservation and then cancel my old, seperately.

If I have to get a new reservation,what happens if the resort is sold out, when I go to get the better rate. I already have a reservation at a higher rate.

I hope I have made this question clear, the topic is a little confusing for me.

Just modify your existing reservation. Call CRO when the AP codes come out and tell them you'd like to apply the AP code to you existing reservation. If it's available for your date, they will adjust it. If they can't - say the AP code is already sold out - you can keep the AAA rate. I know it can get confusing!!!
