Question About Changing Reservations

Hi,
I am not a DVC member (yet!) but have often rented points from members. If I have a reservation for this July, but hope for something earlier to open up, is it even possible to change the reservation date (once it's been made) if something earlier opens up? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, you can always call MS and check for availability at another resort, different date, whatever....

But be careful about making last minute changes though. At the 60-Day mark, if you moved from a larger point reservation to a smaller point one, the point difference would go into "holding". Basically those points are yours to use until the UY is over, but you can only use them to make reservations 60 days out.

Just something to be aware of.

You would have to work through the owner - the renter is not able to make any changes to the reservation (except possibly to add/modify room requests).

Best wishes -

If you have rented points, only the member who made the reservation could make any date changes for you. Otherwise, as noted, changes may be made at any time based on availability. The "Holding Account" is not an issue until you are within 30 days. Any cancellations or changes made 31 days or longer will simply return the points to your account. 30 days or less, the Holding Account comes into play and then those points can only be used for reservations made within 60 days of travel.

Thanks for the clarification..... sorry for the bad info on dates. I guess "60" was stuck in my head for all things....

Thanks, Doc..... good to know :)

Thanks everyone for all the info. And I feel like I'm in a bit of a bind now. I called DVC before I booked with a member and the customer service rep told me that as long as I had my reservation # I could make a date change if there was availibility. Now my problem is that I hate to bother the member I bought from, I know its a pain calling for reservations. Is there any other way to at least check availibility so that when I find it, I can ask the member to call and make the change

Thanks again

Whoever told you that was dead wrong. Only the owner can make any changes with an existing reservation, or make a new reservation. They are the owner's points, not the renter's.

What would actually occur is the owner would have to research availability, cancel the existing ressie, and then make the new ressie. That's not something you will be allowed to do.

That information is exactly right, FOR A MEMBER. I'm a little surprised you were able to even discuss something like that with MS prior to even having a reservation- but that's an entirely different discussion regarding MS and non-members.

Reservations may be changed by members right up until the day of check-in- based on availability. However, the key component here is that only the member who controls the points may make any substantial changes- like changing names, dates, resort or villa type.

There is no mechanism for a non-member to have access to the DVC reservation system to check availability. Members need to provide membership numbers and be able to confirm their identity thru personal information to be able to do that. Non- members can check availability for cash reservations online thru CRO, but that will not translate to availability using DVC points.

I'd suggest contacting the member you rented from to see if they are willing/able to make any changes to your reservation. It may not even be an option depending on their own point status.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for all your helpful info. I think I'll just count my blessings that I got a reservation at all!
