Does anyone know if Delta will allow carryons with wheels. I was out shopping for new luggage (they're all on sale now) and the salesperson mentioned that some airlines don't allow wheels on their carryons.

thanks

According to the Delta Airlines website, here are the approved personal carry-ons:
Approved Personal Carry-on Items
-1 purse, briefcase, camera bag, or diaper bag;
-or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked and must be carried on);
-or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above.

And, this:
Carry-on Baggage Size Restrictions
When oversized bags do not fit in the overhead bins, delays occur. Fees will be applied to the oversized bag if it has to be checked at the gate. To avoid delays as well as fees, follow these size requirements:
Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 115 cm) in combined length, width, and height.

Wheels are fine as long as the size fits the airline's rules. I have a "normal" sized wheeled carry-on and am aways amazed how some people seem to get away with bags that are much larger as carry-ons. Keep in mind as to whether you meet the size requirements when the bag is really full.:)

Dimensions include the space taken up by wheels, handles, etc. For example lower a large book or piece of cardboard onto the bag and as soon as it touches, that is the measurement from floor up to the book/board. (Repeat with the bag lying on its back, etc.)

I am not aware of any airlines that ban wheeled bags outright but United has from time to time taken all wheeled bags to be gate checked after the flight attendant in the cabin reports the overhead bin space becoming short.

just an update on the weight of carry on luggage. I am presently travelling in Australia and airlines are now checking the weight (has to be under 7 kg or 15 lbs) of COL. Didn't matter the size, they were pulling people out of the boarding line up, weighing the bags and telling passengers they would have to check the bags. I flew AA and Qantas but other carriers were also checking!
