Question about carry-ons

For those of you who have flown in the past few days-were you able to bring any carry-on onto the plane? I just got a alert from my TA that about the only thing you can carry onto a plane is a purse or a laptop computer-
Will my children be able to bring a bag with books, crayons, gameboy, snacks? I need a fair size bag just to carry tickets, meds, a book and water for us all.
Thanks for your help, we are traveling in 30 days.

I have a mail in to my Dreams TA. I went onto the FAA.GOV site and no mention was made of not allowing carry ons. They did say to contact your airline for info. I am calling United right now to see what they say. We are not flyin' 'til Nov, so things could change, but I will ask now.....The agent I just spoke with said he's heard nothing substantial from any credible source to give the indication that we would not be allowed to bring carry on bags aboard the plane. This is UNITED, I called. I'd call your airline directly. I too worry of this, since I NEVER check my bags. They loose mine too often.

On US Air's web site, they say their carry-on policy has not changed. The "purse and laptop only" policy doesn't sound quite right. What are you supposed to put your laptop in? You might check your carrier's web site or give them a call. I understand your concern about needing activities for your kids. Gameboy has been great on flights and layovers.

Continental has continued to honor carry on baggage at this time. Who is going to place there camcorder with the regular baggage. I have had items stolen from my checked in baggage. Have you?

I've had my luggage lost too many times to trust them, so I sure hope it
doesn't come to forced checking of bags. I don't think they wanna do
that. Think of what it would mean to them. Suddenly EVERYONE checking bags
I've heard the nasty rumors, but so far, according to airline sources, they are just that. Rumors.

I flew Delta Express last Friday(Sept.14) and took a carry-on aboard. They don't allow sharp metal objects in carry-ons. No razorswith blade, no scissors, nail clippers, etc. They will go through some carry-ons and checked baggage. It is a random situation.

it makes me so angry how much misinfo is going around. every airline that i have called in the past few days (i'm planning a wedding at wdw in november, and i've talked to united, usair, southwest and delta) have all said carry-ons are acceptable and their policies haven't changed.

I had friends who flew Saturday from the north west coast into O'Hare. They had carry on, but it was painstakingly searched. Normal, every day purse type items were confiscated from one.

How about insulin & syringes? Anyone know about those? We are flying TWA in 2 weeks and they just say as long as you have a written letter from a Doctor but I'm still worried about getting there and having to put it in my luggage and then having it broken or lost.

All Northwest worldperks members received email stating they will continue their policy of one carryon and one purse or briefcase.

A reporter who flew on Friday, SWA, wrote in the local paper that only one carryon was allowed. He also wrote that there was a scale set up before the security checkpoint and a sign that said the weight limit was 15 pounds. His backpack weighed 22 pounds, but no one said anything, and he had no problems taking it on the plane. Things are changing very rapidly, check with your carrier a couple of days before the trip.:)
