Question about cancellation, or really, moving dates?

Hi all. My family is planning a trip to WDW in May of next year. It can not come fast enough.

Here's my issue. We are for sure, without a doubt going. We are planning on May 4-11. However--at my husband's job, the vacation pool is sort of weird. In January, he and all of his counterparts sit down with their boss, and all of them take turns picking a week's vacation. They get 3 or 4 weeks, and there is around 11 of them I think, so it goes like, person 1 picks his first week, person 2 picks his first week, etc., then starts all over with their second weeks and so on, until all of them are locked in and they have a vacation schedule for the entire year (nobody can be gone at the same time).

My husband is I think maybe the 5th or 6th to pick (they go by seniority) and he is already freaking out that somebody ahead of him will pick the week we are planning to go to Disney. I told him to calm down, that I thought if that happened, he could just pick a week around that time and we would be able to change our dates with no problem.

Is that how it would work? If he didn't get the week we had booked, I could call Disney and change to whatever week he did get without any fees? This would be in January so well before our trip. Would our deposit/payments we'd made transfer easily? I know our ADR's would be down the drain and I would have to start all over and maybe not get stuff I wanted (unless the actual week wasn't in the 180 day range yet) but that is whole different question. I just want to be able to tell my husband we won't lose any money!

Sorry if this is drawn out or confusing!

We were within 90 days once and I had to call and cancel our vacation. The CM I got on the phone said I could move the reservation without losing our deposit....so we did just that. We have to book 2 rooms for our family and we really didn't want to lose 400.00 in deposits. Moved our vacation a full year ahead and everything just transferred over to the new reservation (not the Free Dining discount, but thankfully another one came out that we applied).

Yes you can move your dates no problem as long as it is before the 45 day payment is due if you book a package. You won't have to pay any fees or lose any money. :thumbsup2

For room only, you can move your date within 6 days. It used to be 5 days but according to the person I just booked a room only with, it's changed to 6 days.

You will be able to call and change your dates no problem. We have had to do it 2x's and didn't have an issue either time. One time was a package deal and another was a room only discount.

I changed our dates/hotel so many times, I swear they have my phone number on caller ID, :lmao: As others have posted, just as long as you are within the 45 days (if you have a resort package), 6 days (for room only), you won't be charged a thing.

One more question for you guys about cancellations...

right now my mother and MIL are both planning on going with us. If one of them decides they can't go, can I cancel them without penalty? For example:

All staying in AoA suite
Book package with dining plan and tickets for 4 adults, 2 children as soon as packages come out.

Say, March of 2013 (going in May) one of them says they can't go, can I call and say, we really only need dining and tickets for 3 adults (wouldn't effect our room) and they'll just take that person/amount off our reservation?

Does that make sense?

I change the dates of our trips and the resorts so many times, it's ridiculous! :rotfl: They make it pretty easy for you to do so, which is nice! Don't worry, hopefully no one will pick the week you want!

Disney is the BEST when it comes to moving dates. We had an unexpected and unavoidable delay in leaving for our trip last year and they moved ALL of our reservations (a split stay that included package with DDP and room-only rooms) two days before check in. On the way down, it took longer than we expected and we were still a day late (AFTER they moved our reservations) but when we showed up, they offered to move our reservations again to make the day we arrived our new arrival date. We were not charged any fees either time.

You'll be OK :thumbsup2
