When you call to see if a PIN is attached to your name, do you just ask the CM that answers your call that question directly? Will you usually have something attached to your name or is it like the lottery and you just have to hope it's there?

Thanks!

Not sure the ryme or reason, but sure as heck feels like a lottery. I hope someone with insight to this process gets back to you because I would like to know too ;)

Yes, you can simply ask the CM you have on the phone at the time. When you receive a pin in the mail (as we all do from time to time) WDW has already attached that pin to your name in their database; so, when you call to talk to a CM about anything at all, you can simply bring up the pin topic and that person will call your name up and voila! there it will be.

You also may have a pin attached to your name and you may not know about it simply because you threw it out or lost it somehow, so it never hurts to simply call and ask. I don't believe WDW would attach a pin to your name and not try to alert you to that fact because, well, what would be the point?

It is not like the lottery at all. Nothing about the business side of WDW is done without reason or forethought -- something I greatly admire about WDW. They give the customer exactly what we want, but they take care of the business side of it with equal vigilance.

So, yes, whatever pin you receive in the mail is already attached to your name when you call a CM. Hope that helps.

I disagree with the above bolded statement. I have called many times to find that there has been a pin attached to my name but I was never alerted. In actuality, since my vacation one year ago, I have received ZERO mailings about any pin codes, but I have called and found out about at least 3. Some were significant pins (30% off - but for room only), some were minor discounts (up to 20% off booking a vacation package), some were ones we'd never use (discount if we stayed at a value or moderate - we've only stayed at Deluxe).

Once, when I called, I asked if there was a way to be alerted when a pin became associated with my name/account, and she said no... the only way was to call, even if I call every week, or even every day. She said that they change often, and that most of the time, the CMs in booking don't even know all the different pins that are being offered at any given time.

That's been MY experience. YMMV.

I always ask if there is a pin attached to my name and unfortunately the answer is always no. :( But on the upside we have been able to visit DW many times and always with at least a room discount. The last time I called I asked the CM if there was a pin attached, first time we have made a ressie without discount cause this is the only week me, DH, DD, and her BF can go with between work, college, and internships, and her reply was "no but they usually don't give pins to guest who return often". Really I thought it was more like the luck of the draw. :scratchin

Question: somebody said "as we all receive a pin from time to time"..... Well how often is that? We go 2x a year and haven't gotten one in 6 years!

I don't understand they send my elderly father with dementia who HATES Disney one almost every 8 months!

We have been going once a year for several years now, we have a Disney visa, we belong to every Disney website there is, I take surveys when they come up.....no pins for us EVER. Go Figure!!!!!

I wouldn't be discouraged by that. We go every year and I get a pin every single year. I wouldn't go otherwise bc we like to stay at the GF!!

"As we all receive a pin from time to time" :rotfl: Might be slightly inaccurate. My parents get pins often. I have gotten a couple recently, but before that NEVER. There are definately MANY people on here, I have heard say they have never had one.

OP, it is definately random. Not sure that the lottery is random, but your odds might be a LITTLE better for getting a pin than winning the lottery. :goodvibes

I also agree that Disney will assign pins to your name and not tell you. I'm not sure why they do that, but I have been able to call and find out I have a pin and I know that they never sent anything to tell me.

We call and regularly request info abt vacation planning and they always send a pin with the material. We've never used it and are finally planning a trip to disney this dec but maybe getting the packet is one way to get those rolling again?

Once I did a bounce back. Then I got my first an only PIN, for the SAME PERIOD AS MY BOUNCE BACK!!!

That was like 4 years ago. Even after we cruised on DCL for the first time last August, I figured I would get a PIN, but nope.
