I'm going shopping this morning. What kind do you all have, do you like it, any suggestions?

Serena,
I've had mine for many years. We got it when they first came out with Caller ID. Ours is a separate little box - and Sprint sent it to us when we signed up for the service.

We do like the service. It's cut down on all the telemarketing calls (and the new Do Not Call List law has enhanced this, too.) The teens now know that they can't pull the old "Call late at night and then hang up" routine, either. I've busted a few kids on that over the years!:D

Pam, I've got the service already. I got that a few months ago when someone was bothering me, but he was put in jail before I got the little box, so I didn't need it then.
Now I need it because my dd's ex isn't taking "no" for an answer.

Awww, Lauri, that stinks!:( Please say that your windows are locked and secure, as well as the doors!

Did you call your phone company and ask for a box? I do know that a lot of the newer phones have the Caller ID box built right in.

Pam, that's the part I'm scared of. I'm not always home at night, and my dd has to work, sometimes walking home by herself. Also with the new puppy needing to go out. I'm trying really hard not to over-react, but it's a little stressful around here. :(

I have an AT&T cordless with Caller id built in. I got it at sears
Becareful!!

I've got an AT&T with the caller ID built in the phone. It's worked great until the last four or five months. Now the screen doesn't show all of the letters so its hard to read the names. We get to where we just don't answer the phone if we can decipher what we can read.

Serena, that's so scary! Take care and document everything. It might not help but at least you will have record of it.

Does your DD have a cell phone? And is this boy over the age of 18 - I know your DD is right around my DD's age and mine just turned 18. If this boy is over 18 - I think I would file a report with the police if his irrational behavior continues.

Does your ex still live across the street? Can he be of any help in the situation???

We have caller ID's on every phone in the house, either in the phone or as a box. The very best we have is a Sony, no longer available, maybe Ebay. Other than that, we have CIDCO and Nortel. All are fairly similar, just make sure it is name AND number.

Kirby, batteries may be low.

A suggestion -

My MIL used to have a Sony which had BIG letters so it was easy to read the name without glasses. Well, whenthat one died, we had to go get her a new phone. The new one has tiny letters, and half the time she has no clue who is calling. It's very hard to find a phone with big letters, but some of the separate boxes might be easier to read.

We have the little box on the hall phone that we got when the service first came out years ago. Our cordless phone has the screen on the handset. :D It's nice because even the kids know that if the screen shows "unavailable" or "out of the area", it's a telemarketer and they ignore it. It's also nice when you talk to someone and they insist that they DID call back (like a business call that you are expecting). You can tell immediately that they are lying!

I also had an AT & T phone I had purchased at Sam's Club. After about a month, I started to lose some of the numbers. It got to the point where I could no longer understand the numbers and names! I called the company and they said I could just put it back in the box and exchange it at Sam's Club. They said that maybe it had gotten damaged in shipment. I exchanged the phone and AGAIN within a couple months, the display went on the second phone!! I replaced it with a different brand and haven't had the problem since!! :p

Also, if your phone co. offers caller id/call waiting, make sure your phone accepts that! It's nice when call waiting beeps, you can see who is calling and know whether you need to pick it up. :bounce:

I personally like the ones built into the phone, that way you can see who's calling even when you are on the phone if you have call waiting!

I can completely understand what your dd is going thru!! I had a psycho ex (my dd father) and had the hardest time dealing w/ him. I ended moving to get away from him, but he's a very evil kind of person! Someone I should have never got involved w/ in the first place. Please oh please tell her to be careful! I have no clue what the ex is like, but you can never be too careful. No matter what he's like, this has got to be mentally draining on her. Tell her to keep her head up, it will get better! I will add you all in my prayers!

Call Waiting Caller ID ROCKS!

I have a cordless phone that I got from Radio Shack believe it or not that is the BEST phone in the world!

The phone has built in Call-Waiting Caller ID which allows you to see the name/number of the person trying to beep in as well as who is calling you.

I like this feature b/c sometimes I'm on the phone and I have a beep and I know who's calling before I click over.

As far as a box caller id, I'd get one that has a lit up back screen for "night vision" LOL
