I was just told that you can take your camera into any photo store at any of the theme parks and they will burn your pics to CD ... I had no idea they would do this!!!
Got a few questions:

1. Will they burn RAW images or only JPEG?

2. How much does it cost to get done?

3. Will they deliver your CD to your room or do you have to carry it with you in the parks?

Any other information you can give me would be great!
Thanks!

Don't know on 1 or 3, but for 2, be sure to take out a second mortgage before leaving home! They also limit the number of shots per disk even if the disk still has room remaining. I doubt VERY seriously that they would do RAW transfers, b/c these are not exactly trained photographers or anything. They are college kids that are taught how to press a few buttons and take your money. If you plan on doing say ten disks, you could probably buy a laptop to bring for cheaper.

I don't really have the answer either, but just guessing from traditional prices, I would wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper to pick up several cards before travelling and carrying them with you? My guess would be that a card would be cheaper to buy at home than to pay for a disc at Disney. That's just my guess.

That's what I have been trying to price....
I have a brand new camera and its burning a hole in my pocket so to speak when it comes to taking pictures :rotfl:

I priced those storage devices where they store anywhere between 80-250gb off of any memory card plus have a viewer and other gadgets ~ the cost for a 120gb one is $300. I can buy 15 8gb cards (for a total of 120gb) for that much :lmao:

On our last trip (with my old boring camera) I went just with my DD and I on a girls trip ... I took about 2 grand worth of shots in a week ...yup I am bad when it comes to photos ... but when I got home I deleted about 25% of those due to bad shots.

My brand new camera is twice the megapixels and can shoot in RAW wooohooo. I found me a point and shoot (canon G10) that can shoot in RAW and I love it!
I am really new to photography so I needed an option of P&S when in a hurry or I am not wanting to worry about all the settings but as I am getting more into photography I wanted the RAW option so I can learn and play!
It also isn't near as heavy or bulky as the DSLR. I do eventually want to get a DSLR but right now its just too much camera for me lol

The GS10 is 15megapixels and I either shoot in superfine jpeg or RAW which takes up so much space. I know I could go down in quality but then I lose the chance to do major cropping and post production. I am new to photography so I do have to do major edits on those shots I had thought turned out great lol

EXAMPLE would be this photo I took the other day of my DD birthday candle blowing out. I REALLY wanted that glowy candle look on her face ~ I didn't achieve what I was looking for AACKKK but I shot it in RAW and was able to fix the white balance to make it LOOK glowy (using a daylight setting) I know its a cheat but to the average person it looks DANG good! LOL
I should have used a reflector on the left side of the camera as that side of her face is a bit dark BUT because I shot it in RAW I was able to change the look completely of the photo ...IE ... shoot like a dummy but edit like a mad woman LOL

I had this same question for our trip too. It's our first trip, I'm a photo junkie, and it's going to be my sons 13th Birthday so I know I'll have way too many pictures. After doing a little research, it sounds like the CD's made at WDW cost an average of $12 a CD. Not bad if your doing only one or two I guess but when I place it against the cost of the local Walgreens here who charges $3-4 for a CD, it seemed a bit high.
After talking with some others, I decided for us, the best answer was to spend the extra cash on getting more memory cards. I would take a laptop with me to transfer the pix but I really don't have that option right now.

Not sure this helps but thought it would help in deciding to see the price difference from WDW to home.

Hope you have a great trip!!

I have seen netbooks with 160gb drives for less than $200. That would work to unload your cards to a hard drive and you could probably pick up a removable DVD drive for about $30 if you want that extra level of protection.

Life is easier if you have a laptop along. If you insist on travelling without one, you might try a combination of devices like this for storing the photos and this for doing the transfer. I've never used one of the computer-less USB transfer devices, so I don't know how they work. Looking at it some more, it runs off of AAA batteries, so it probably couldn't supply power to the external drive. You might be better off with a self-powered external hard drive.

Here is a cheaper external hard drive that is AC powered. It's 600 gig, made by Hitachi, and is $60 with free shipping.

Here is a cheaper ($20) and simpler copying device. Alas, it also relies on AAA batteries and my guess is that it will munch through them.

In theory, this setup should work, but I have no experience with either. It'll set you back almost $100 for the setup. And you'll have to deal with the discomfort of not being able to see that your pictures really were backed up.

A think a cheap, used laptop would be a better solution.

Just wondering where you can find a portable dvd burner for $30. Cheapest I have found is around $80?

I already have one, but have seen them that cheap from Buy.com before. I get their daily e-mail with the deals.

This is what I finally decided to do with my old laptop for our upcoming trip to Washington state this summer. Figure my photos of the Hoh Rainforest, Pacific beaches, Seattle, and Mt. Rainier will outnumber even my longest Disney trip!:goodvibes

Techie son is reformatting it and I am basically going to use it to store photos and send e-mail while on trips. I will also periodically burn CDs for extra backup.

Haven't read through all of the replies here. Praline...GREAT shot. I'm jealous. I think you should invest in more memory cards. They always come in handy, you don't have to worry about downloading the photos while on vacation, if you have several and you change them out daily or according to the park you're at etc. it's a little built in organization. Just my 2 cents though.

A cheap netbook, possibly coupled with a small, cheap portable hard drive make a great multiple back-up solution when you're on the road.

I doubt there are any even left, but my Buy.com e-mail this morning had a netbook for $199.

Hi Brook :wave2:

A few years back my memory card was full and my spare was back at the resort. We went to the Kodak Center in AK for them to burn my photos to a DVD. It cost $25 for about 300 photos. They gave me the disk, I'm guessing they'd ship it to the resort since they ship frames and stuff from the same place. This was a few years ago (2006) so I'm not sure of the current price. I'm also a P&S gal, so I have no idea what you're talking about with the images on the disk. It was the same kinda disk you'd get if you put your photos on a disk at Walgreens :rotfl2:

Hope that helps!

Mare
