When do the rates become available to book trips for 2009? I know you can't do it online via WDW's site but is there a way to do it if I call WDW instead? I am looking to book for August 2009. Thanks in advance.

The 2009 rates should come out mid-August. You can book a room only reservation wwwaaayyy ahead of time. I am not sure how many days it is but I am sure somebody will chime in here with the exact time frame.

I booked our June, 2008 room only reservation in July, 2007. I was required to put up a deposit equal to the first night's stay (at 2007 rates). When the 2008 rates came out mid-August, I called back and canceled the room only and booked a package. I was required to put down a $200.00 deposit. My room only deposit was refunded back to my credit card within a week's time.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I was originally going to book a 4 night land/3 day cruise package for August 2009 but because of the down payment and going back to school issues, I decided it would be better to book a 6 night/5 day WDW package and then later add the 3 day cruise to it. I was going to book through MEI travel but they just told me I couldn't book the WDW package for 2009 yet unless it included the cruise. But I remembered someone telling me it was possible to book it for the next year sooner than the website will allow but only if you call WDW instead of trying to book online. So now I am thinking we may just go to WDW this year and do the cruise next year as two separate trips instead of one big one. Thanks again for your advice. I really appreciate it. :)

You are quite welcome. When I booked room only, I called 407-W-DISNEY. It was so simple to cancel the room only and book the package. You shouldn't run into any problems at all.

Don't know if this relates to your question but I checked AAA online to try and check rates at Disney resorts for the Disney Marathon in 2009. It let me go up until January 8th, nothing past that.

Thanks for that. It does help me alot.

I just booked my 2009 trip this afternoon. You can only do it that far ahead over the phone. I was quoted 2008 rates and will get updated rates (and possibly packages too) in May/June/July.

When you booked the room, did you tell them that you would be adding the other stuff later or did you just wait and do it when the rates became available?

I was told that they would contact me when rates were released-- so hopefully I'll hear rather early!

Just a tip.. if you DO book room only for 2009 now.. your reservation will be at an artificially high rate in most cases ... until the proper seasons and rates for 2009 are revealed in August of 2008.

Don't freak at the room rate they quote you -- in almost all cases, it won't be as high as they say.

Thanks so much for telling me that. I definitely would have freaked out if I didn't know that in advance.

Oh yes... they quoted me PEAK for value season! I figured it out though... it will make those real rates look good!

You can book a room only 499 days in advance. Rates are non-guaranteed, and they are usually pretty high- but if you're booking for a peak season, the rate you're quoted may be lower than what the actual rate will be.

If you're running in the WDW Marathon in January, you can book a Marathon Package with guaranteed rates immediately- call 407-WDW-IRUN.

When packages come out (in 2007, the 2008 packages came out in July/August) you'll be able to cancel your room only res and rebook as a package.

If you know you're coming during a busy time, or there's a specific resort/room you really want... it's definitely worth it to book the room only in advance and guarantee the availability.

Thanks! This is all really great advice. I wanted to be able to do a good WDW trip with all the trimmings so having the extra time to pay it off seemed to be the right way to go. That's one thing I really love about WDW is it being all inclusive plus being able to make payments as you go.

I booked for May 2009 and they also quoted me the peak price for the regular season. Not exactly what I wanted to hear but booked anyway. It would be great if the price is the actual regular rated as quoted on the rates sheet with each individual hotel listed on the site. Even if its just a bit higher I would be very happy.
