Hi everyone!

Looking to book our first two trips with our points. I am looking at Vero Beach for 4 or 5 nights this January and then 7-8 nights next summer at AK (home resort). If I book 4 nights for Vero Beach this January and decide to book an extra day - can I purchase the additional points and do it after the original reservation is made?

We usually go for 7-9 nights and find that a good amount. If we decide to add an additional night and pay cash - is it is easy to do? Do you have to check out and check back in? Has anyone had any issues with that?

Thanks so much!!

The OTU (One Time Use Points) can only be used at the 7 month mark, so make your reservation and then call back at the 7 month mark to add the day with the OTU points.

Also, One Time Use points can only be purchased at the time you make the booking. So, call Member Services 800-800-9800 when you are ready to book. You are already within the 7 month window. If you have already booked, have them cancel it and rebook it with the One Time Use points.

Regarding your VERO booking, go ahead and book what you need with your points for now. THen later, at the 7 month window, call member services to add on that night and buy the one time use points at $17 each at that time. The should be able to link the days you already booked to the day you are booking with one time use points.

As for the other reservation, if you want to add on a night via cash, I think it would have to be the EXACT same room category so I'd ask member services about the best way to set that up so you dont have to move rooms. For example, AK has regular rooms plus DVC rooms so when you book you would need to make them understand that you want to pay cash for the exact same DVC room on that extra night...hope this helps

I do know that it is much easier to cut days off from a reservation then to add them later. You can always add them until things get full. But once they get full you can not add any more days. On the other hand you can cut back on days up until a month before your visit. And under certain conditions might be able to cut back even within a month. However I would check on that. I say you MIGHT be able to, but, generally, if you cut, cancel or 'trim' a vacation (to lower days/points) inside the 1 to 30 day window, the now unused points become 'Holding Points' and go into a 'Holding Account.' Where they are pretty much worthless.

So I often will over book by a day or two extra on the beginning or on the end if I think I might end up using them. Then I cut back when I find out what my plans are exactly. But I keep track of time and cut back when it is best for me. For reservations I have in October, this year, I cut back 2 rooms by 4 days each, and I did it in May. But I could have held them until, say, now, since they were days on the beginning of my reservation, and I could have used them at the 60 day window to get better FastPasses. Of course, then I might have forgotten to cancel them.

You're already inside the 7-month window for non-home resorts in January. Go ahead and book that VB villa if it is available. Cash inventory and DVC inventory are separate and would have different reservation numbers. So if you were to book additional nights in a villa with cash, you would have to check out and check back in. You can ask to stay in the same villa as long as it is the same booking category. If you purchase OTUPs, then the reservation would be continuous with no need to check out/in or to move to a different villa.
