Is it acceptable to make a PS for Blue Bayou and only order dessert? The whole dinner may be a bit much for us, but we sure would like to stop in some evening and order dessert while we soak up the atmosphere. Are they going to think we are weird?

I don't see anything wrong with it... i would have them note it in the reservation though...

There has been one person who reported seeing another table be rebuked for ordering just dessert, and I believe they said that those people were asked to leave.

Since they don't ask what you're going to order when you make a PS or check in, I personally see NOTHING wrong with it.

There are those who say that they would tip more, but even as someone who has been in tipping positions, I don't see the point. Tipping is based on the check amount, and since our portobello dish is less expensive than the prime rib, I don't find myself tipping more to make up for that...and I doubt I would tip a higher percentage if I were simply ordering dessert. That's just me, though, and I'm giving you BOTH sides of it so you know both sides. :goodvibes

We might do that on this trip, if we can get a last minute PS or a walk-up seating. I'm sure there will be beverages purchased as well.

We do this from time to time here at home if we want to just stop in somewhere and get dessert and coffee in the late evening. Not a big deal at most places I would suspect, but at DL their might be certain expectations. My thinking was that if we only order dessert, the table is turned over much faster so it is not like the waitstaff would lose out on a tip.

That's what we plan on doing...if there is a restriction it should be noted somewhere!

:rolleyes1

this is so funny, I was actually thinking of asking the same question here on the dis! :lmao:

You know, I had an experience with this in WDW, my family and I were going to the San Angel Inn for just margaritas and apps, and they told us no! :scared1: We had to order entrees if we wanted to stay, I was extremely offended...it makes no sense to me, (and I work in restaurant mgt!) Seems nuts they would turn down money, (drinks aren't cheap either! lol)

I actually want to go to blue bayou for desserts this go round...but a little nervous of having the same experience.

Our plan is for desert only this Tues. we have a PS for 11:30 ~ I'll let you know how it goes. Heck, my 1st time at the BB was just DS & I, we ordered the crab cake app. (had we known the pirate hat they gave us was the kids menu we could've had the kids prime rib for the same price) and the cookie boat.

Just let them know ahead of time- it changes their scheduling (how soon they can anticipate the table being free for the next party.) Also, I know there are people who don't, but it is polite to tip a little higher percentage wise. :)

We called once and made PS's. We asked to put it it in the notes that we only wanted desserts(we've been before for dinner and the meal wasn't worth the $$) They told us that it was not allowed. At least 1 entree must be purchased (this was a PS for 2). this was back last September, so I don't know if things have changed by now or not.

I was considering this too but at an off-peak dining time. I won't book a PS then if it's against policy. ;) But, I might try snagging a last minute booking some evening we're in DL, and of course I'll explain to the CM at the podium that we want dessert only. :goodvibes

Since this is such a sought after place to eat I can see why they would limit it to full meals. We had planned to do this on our first time, we had 3:30 PS, but we never got around to Lunch so we ate a full meal & dessert and ended up with just a snack at about 8pm for dinner.

I would call disney dining and ask them about it. No harm in asking, and if you are able to do so then you can make reservations right then and there if you dont have them already.

This was almost 2 years ago, but by DH and I booked a PS for Blue Bayou the first time we ate there and ended up only ordering dessert with no problem. My intent when I made the PS was to eat a full meal but all I could get was a late afternoon 3:30-4:00ish time. We ate an early lunch in anticipation of an early dinner as well, but we just weren't hungry enough to justify the cost of a full BB meal plus desser and we really wanted to try to Cookie Boat and the creme brulee trio. We were thrilled to be seated a waterside table and left a very generous tip for our server!

I may just ask when I make the PS. I can also remind them when we arrive. If we get stopped at either point it is no big deal. We will be there in mid-June so it may be busy and it may be frowned upon at that time of year. Thanks for all of the advice. I actually figured most people would say it was no big deal so I am a bit surprised to hear of what has happened to some.
