Question about BLT's Top of the World Lounge

I wonder if it's as "automatic" as the entries to the building?:guilty: I was not too happy to see people could walk right up to those doors that had the card readers on them and just pull on the door and open it went.:sad2: I mean, isn't there ANY secrurity? No wonder those pizza flier guys can get in w/o any trouble. Sorry, vent over.:flower3:

no these locks are new on the steps.

which doors are you talking about? for me if I even forget to do the card readers the door will not open - the ones on the bottom floor and the ones on the 5th floor (well the ones on CR - 4th floor).

the steps have never until recently had a lock on them. and pretty sure this ones only works when the fireworks are going. you can still go visit the deck at any time - any one staying at BLT can - unless the lounge is open.

We saw it happen both on the door on the south side of the tower on the ground floor and the one in the CR leading onto the bridge. In fact I remember on that one in particular, a family was ahead of us walking up to it and the dad was fumbling to get his card out saying "wait, you need a card" and one of the teens said "no you don't" and pulled on the door and open it went. I was like, WHAT? ;):mad: I had to add the "like".
I'm glad to hear it's not a usual thing though.

the son must have seem that the door was not completely closed from the last people walking thru.

now that does happen, one the other hand when were your hands have stuff in them - that automatic door opener is very nice.

It takes the automatic door opener a much longer time to close - which is helpfully when you are old like me.

It looked closed to me. No one had come through at least within our viewing distance, but it's possible. ;) It's funny too, you must have boys like I do, it was a teen girl. ;) We get things in our heads don't we. Glad to hear they are usually locked.

And yeah, I LOVE the auto doors!

One of our favorite surprises last time we went to WDW as DVC members was staying in the Bay Lake Tower and watching the fireworks from the Top of the World Lounge. You could get a drink and a snack inside, then head out to the patio thing to watch Wishes, the Electric Water Pageant, and even parts of Illuminations. As cheesy as it may be, it was a genuinely magical experience.

So this next trip down, we're staying in the Wilderness Lodge Villas. The question of enormous fallout that I have is this: Obviously, Top of the World is a DVC members only area, but do you have to be staying in the Bay Lake Tower to enjoy it?

EDIT: Should note that BLT is our "home" resort.

To gain access to TOTWL, the following three criteria must be met:

- you must be a DVC member

- staying at BLT

- on points (whether the points are yours or rented is irrelevant)

Anything short of meeting all three of these requirements won't get you up to the lounge. Home resort standing does not guarantee you any special privileges offered by that resort if you are not staying there.

Not necessarily--they have been asking for the DVC membership card and renters would not have one.

I just asked MS a question about my group of my guests having any trouble because their reservation didn't say they were guests while my other group's did.

The response was since I was staying at the resort with them, and going up with them, they would face no challenges in getting in. It lead me to believe that they do sometimes only allow members and guests staying at the same time as the member in, which would leave renters without access.

So, anyone who rents points should not plan on being allowed. They can certainly try with just the KTTW card and if the CM decides that is sufficient, then that is all that matters.

But, I have not heard of any DVC member being allowed up who was not a staying at BLT on their membership.
