The subject of feeding wild birds reminds me of something we saw last year that I probably shouldn't think was funny, but yet really was.
We were eating a slice of pizza from the window at the Boardwalk and a family with two young kids (ages like 6 and 8) was sitting at a table near us with a whole pizza. The parents were actively encouraging the kids to feed the ducks walking around the area, which annoyed us, partly because it's irresponsible, and largely because it just caused the ducks to congregate near us. We were obviously more annoyed with the parents, who should know better, than the kids. Anyway, the kids started almost chasing the ducks around with their crust pieces, which the parents were breaking off and handing to them, when the little girl somehow got her head stuck between the bars of the fence separating the Boardwalk area from the lagoon. Now, I don't get any pleasure seeing a small child in distress, but once she was extracted none the worse for wear, we had to chuckle at how the parents and the child hopefully learned a lesson from the incident.
Parents, don't let your kids feed the birds, and don't let them stick their heads through the bars of a fence.
