Question About Beds

So, the hubs and I were seriously thinking of purchasing DVC. On our trip this month we rented points to stay at The Polynesian in a Studio so we could give it a try. The beds were the most uncomfortable we have ever encountered in a room anywhere. Now my husband doesn't even want to consider DVC because he's afraid all the beds are like this in the units.

Has anyone experienced uncomfortable beds in the units or did we just have bad luck at the Poly? I think we're willing to try points at another resort, but I'm skittish to book an entire vacation in one because it was seriously that bad.

Thanks for any input!

It looks like with the remodels, that all the units are getting the platform beds, without a box spring so I would think they will be about the same.
I have stayed at the Poly and had no problems with the bed, but I prefer a firm bed, so does my bad back.

I have a bad back too, but this was beyond firm. It felt like sleeping on the floor. Even my children commented on how uncomfortable the beds were. Maybe it's just us.

As long as you are not talking about the fold out sofas, if everybody thought the beds were the most uncomfortable they'd ever found in any room, anywhere, they would all be selling their points, I'd guess.

I have never noticed uncomfortable beds in any DVC (that weren't fold out sofas), but then I haven't stayed at the Polynesian yet.

I had a bed like that at the regular Poly resort long ago, it turned out the people before us had the resort put a piece of plywood under the mattress to firm it up, that was a "KILLER" even on my back.

No, I was talking about the regular beds. I guess we'll give it another go at a different resort and hope it's different!

When we stayed at CC last september, we didn’t have any problems with the beds. Everyone in my party slept very comfortably.

I am very sensitive due to arthritis to firm mattresses and did not notice that for the week we stayed at the Poly. Hopefully it was a fluke. Try BLT the mattresses there are wonderful.

I’m not sure how a piece of plywood under the mattress makes it any firmer when you sleep on it. A box spring is a 5-6 inch lift to make beds a certain height off the ground. A box spring at most is probably going to flex about 1/16-1/8 inch if you laid in the center of the mattress. It is designed to absorb shock, not for comfort, that is job of the mattress. But memory foam and air mattresses need to be on a completely flat surface. It sounds like they just bought bad mattresses for Poly.

Maybe, but when they removed the plywood, it was much better to sleep on. A box SPRING has springs, so that must do something. This was way back when Disney actually cared about the customers.

Remove your mattress and lay on it. Tell me how “ Springy” you think it is.

I like firm....like a slab of granite with a sheet on top of it, lol.

If it’s like a rock I’d be happy.
