Question about Barrowing

Can I do this?

I have a February use year. I own at the AKV and have both Jambo and Kidani points. I know I can't use the Kidani Points until May 2009. I have a resevation for a Studio in March and want to switch (if available to a 1 Bedroom but don't have enough jambo points in my 2009 use year as I also have a August reservation for concierge at AKV. I need about 70 points to cover the 1 bedroom and I don't want to switch around points with the August reservation (affraid they will lose my conciege room) since I will already be in my 2009 use year can I borrow the 70 points from the 2010 use year? I can then bank the other points into 2010 when the time comes.

I'm confused about something even more simple. I have been told that AK is AK. doesn't makkter if it's Jambo or Kidani. If that's the case, what's to borrow? The points are all the same.

Ah! (Just re-read your question) Good One. That's interesting. I understand the problem now.

I would THINK that they would have to let you use your 2008 "Kidani" side points for that but I'm not sure. I've got a funny feeling that this one's gonna have to go to MS to get the true answer but never fret, there is a TON of expertise here. Somebody probably knows for sure.

You could certainly borrow the "Jambo" points and then bank "Kidani" points back to replace them. That's why I think it's a wash and they'd just let it go on your 2008 points but like I said, I don't know.

Yes, you can borrow from your 2010 Use Year for a trip during your 2009 Use Year. In this case, the only limitation you are facing is that the points you own at Kidani cannot be used for any reservation before May, 2009 - but all of your AKV points will be available for use for reservations after that date.

Good luck changing your reservation. Availbility for the 1BR may be a challenge since you are already inside 7 months for next March.

I believe what I'm saying is right, but I'm not 100% sure. You should be able to borrow from your 2010 Jambo points into your 2009 points to book a stay during your 2009 use year, but your Kidini points will not be available to use until May 2009. At that time you should be able to bank them into 2010.

Let's clarify because you may have two options:

1. You have a March studio ressie with Jambo points. To switch that to a 1BR, you would cancel the studio and get a 1BR, so make sure 1BR is available before making the switch. For that ressie you can if you want borrow Jambo points from your Feb 2010 use year (you won't be able to borrow any Kidani points because of the use restriction as those cannot be used at all for any trip before May 2009).

2. You have an August ressie. Here is where I am unclear. I assume that ressie combines both Jambo and Kidani points. Do you have in your account enough unused Kidani points that you can do a switch and get that 1BR in March without borrowing? For example, assume you need 70 additional points to change that March ressie and there are 70 Jambo points in that August ressie, AND you have sitting in your account 70 unused Kidani points from Feb 2009. If that is the case they may allow you to do a switch: replace those Jambo points in the Aug ressie with Kidani points (without risking losing the ressie) and then use those Jambo points to change the March ressie. In doing this, take care to explain exactly what you want to do, including that you don't want them to cancel the Aug ressie first but just make a switch of points so you do not risk losing the Aug ressie.
