Question about banked points

I had banked ~250 points from last year to this year in Jan. In March I made a reservation at AKV for 7 nights during Thanksgiving so they used my banked points for the reservation first.

During July 2009 we made a trip to WDW and stayed at SSR for a few days. So my cuurent year points were used for that reservation.

Now unfortunately I had to change our thanksgiving stay to 6 nights instead of 7 nights due to my DS availability. So I called and changed my reservation today and found out that 48 points for the one Sat night I cancelled were the banked points from last year and I will not be able to bank them to next year.

I do realize my mistake I should have reallocated my banked points to the July reservation at that time instead of current year points but since we have been DVC members for only 1 year I was unaware of that and now the CM said that banked points cannot to reallocated to a completed reservation in July.

I wanted to get your expert opinion over here whether what I was told by the CM is absolutely true and that point reallocation cannot be done after a stay or whether I should call again to try with another CM.

If not we will just have to make another trip before the end of use year in May 2010.

Is your Thanksgiving trip 100% banked points? They may be able to change one of the Thanksgiving days from current to the now free banked points. (They did that a few years ago for me, but the reservation system is now a little different)

I do not think they could apply your banked points to a past trip (but I'm not the definitive expert) I'm thinking you'll either need to find a unit using more points (might be unlikely for Thanksgiving) or make another trip!

All good points but my Thanksgiving trip is all banked points and we are already in 1 bedroom savannah view and don't think we need 2 bedroom so I did not check for it although the CM did mention that everything is pretty much sold out as she was confirming the change.

Plan another trip or rent the points.

If you are more than 4 months from the end of your use year, check out the Concierge Collection and see if there is anything close to your home that might work for a weekend trip. Can you add one night to your trip at one of the non-DVC resorts? Maybe you've always wanted to stay at the GF or the Poly?

If you are within 4 months of the end of your use year, how about a quick trip to Disneyland in California? You might have to add a few points, but I think you can get a couple of nights in the DLH or PP with those points.

Otherwise, you'll have to try to make a DVC reservation with those points before they expire and wither use it or lose it. VB and/or HHI might have availability if you can't find anything at WDW.
