Question about bag check

I'm trying to understand the location of the bag check and metal detector lines. I've been to DL once, about five years ago, so I understand how the park entrances to DL and DCA are across a plaza from each other. Are there separate bag check and metal detector lines for each park, so that if you park hop you must go through the lines at both parks each time? Or are the bag check lines positioned such that you go through them once upon arrival, and can then park hop without going through the lines again? Thank you! :flower1:

Security (bag checks/metal detector lines) is not specific to either DL or DCA - There are two security checkpoints, one at either end of the esplanade (one coming from Harbor and the other coming from Downtown Disney/Mickey & Friends). So, while the DL and DCA entrances are across from each other, so are the security checkpoints - it basically forms a square. When you park hop you are walking across the esplanade. If you look at a map it will probably make more sense, but once you go through security you are covered for both parks.

There is another security checkpoint coming out of the Grand Californian Hotel and coming into California Adventures. They have the same protocol as the security checkpoints going into the esplanade.

Ack - I completely forgot about the security checkpoint coming from the GCH, sorry!

Thanks everyone! We are staying at the Grand, so we may use their checkpoint if lines aren't prohibitive. Looking forward to it!

The GCH checkpoint is only for resort hotel guests, so I wonder how bad that one gets? We are hoping to stay there in February and went to check the hotel out yesterday. It was totally empty around 11 when we wandered around, but I expect is more of a mess first thing in the morning. Tho even at 11, the security check from DTD was awful.

First thing in the morning, the DCA entrance from the Grand Californian is very backed up. It can take a half hour to get through. You generally do much better to go around to the front gate.

It's resort exclusive until about 11am, and then it opens to anyone. But in the morning it can get pretty backed up, as there obviously aren't as many metal detectors there. It's terrible on the EMH days.

THANK YOU!!! We must have just literally been minutes before 11 or they hadn't taken down the sign. We had parked in DTD because we were leaving soon, but needed something from World of Disney and thought we could enter through GCH and hit one ride with dd and niece before heading out. I remembered us entering through there last July after eating at PP, but thought it must have changed since then. Thank you for clarifying!
