I remember a few years back using the Sandcastle Club over at the Beach Club for my daughter ,who was 4 1/2 at the time.We loved it as did she.It was reasonably priced ,they fed her and she even made a necklace! So,here's the question..My son is 5 and Autistic ,would they be able to watch him?Do they accept kids with special needs? Anyone have any experience with that? :confused3

My dd(8) who has a disability which presents similarly to CP and is a full time wheelchair user and my typical ds(12) have done both the Grand Floridian kids club and the Neverland Club at the Poly (both in '08) and LOVED them! The GF club was a "cooking class" where the kids served cookies to guests in the Grand Floridian Cafe...LOL! Although, my ds was attending too, believe me...my kids were each off doing their own thing. The adults in both clubs were extremely kind and attentive. I did speak to them to discuss her abilities and what her needs were regarding toileting (to contact me...) and everything was fine. When we bumped into a childcare worker at the Poly boat rental afterwards, my daughter was greeted with big hellos and hugs - too sweet! I would definitely contact the resort childcare facility you're planning to attend, in advance (you'll need to contact them during operating hours) and discuss your child's needs, especially if they'll require any additional attention. But I think you'll find them most accomodating and if your child is anything like mine - they'll be begging to go back :) Have fun!

I also have a child with special needs and have started investigating the accomodations around the park and at the GF resort. I thought we would be on our own and be left out of many things because of his disabilities, but it sounds like Disney is really great about helping with this. He also has a peanut allergy and there are many places and things for him to eat or be specially prepared if the chef is notified in advance...
Thanks for sharing your info...

By law, they need to make reasonable accommodations to try to meet your child's needs. They are actually licensed as day care providers so the laws that apply to day cares also apply to them.
They would not be required to provide things like specially trained 1:1 staff, but they can't just say that children with disabilities can't be cared for.

As another poster mentioned, come up with a list of your child's needs then call to discuss ways those needs could be met.
Many have posted good experiences like posters on this thread are reporting. The key would be to make sure that you have a good idea of your child's needs so that they can try to come up with ways to meet them.

Thanks so much for this thread! I was wondering something similar.

We're booked up to stay at the Beach Club next year and would love to have one "date night" while we are there.

My three boys have additional needs, My eldest has ADHD (he will be 11), my middle son is on the Autistic Spectrum ( he will be 9) and my youngest is under assessment for both ADHD and Autistic Spectrum ( he will be 4). They can be quite a handful all together and I do worry that it may be too much even for a kids club that welcome special needs so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to use this facility and will probably contact them nearer the time.

thanks
