Question about attractions

I have a couple of questions for anyone out there...

I've read the Land pavillion will be closed until March 05. I assume this means Living with the Land attraction will be closed. We are going week of 3/14 and will be disappointed to miss not only Livin', but also the new Soarin'. Any details/input anyone has with regard to this would be VERY appreciated.

Also, we have missed Carousel of Progress last two times to WDW. I hear it also will go down for major rehab after Stitch opens. Any chance it might be running week we're there? (Still don't understand why Carousel is only "seasonal")

Also read somewhere that castle has scaffolding and is being repainted. Wasn't clear if that was SB in DL or Cind in WDW.

Sound like from all I am reading major work is being done just about everywhere (long overdue!), but we really hope it's pretty much wrapped up by March trip.

Can't help with the rest, but it's DL's castle that's being painted, though it will be done sometime this November.

I have heard that the Land will be closed for a long rehab, though.

They closed Food Rocks to make way for Soarin' (great attraction by the way!). I think the Land itself is still open.

Carousel of Progress is sadly only usually open with other big rides are closed (like when they closed Alien to make way for Stitch). I would love for it to be rehabbed. It is one of our favorites and definately showing its age.

The castle in question is Disneylands getting ready for the 50th anniversary.

MousePlanet.com is reporting on the Land pavilion closure. Yes, it would be the entire pavilion. Here is their report:

As we've been reporting, The Land pavilion in Epcot is closing January 2 through approximately mid-March so the new Soarin' ride can be completed. We've learned details of some of the other work scheduled to take place during that time.

Installation of a new elevator and escalators to help ease guest flow to and from the lower level of the pavilion.
Closure of the Sunshine Season Food Fair, to be replaced with a smaller resturant with seating in the center of the pavilion.
Removal of the balloons and fountain from the pavilion.
Addition of Fastpass facilities for Soarin', and a gift shop will be opened where Food Rocks stood.
It's also rumored that the pavilion may be receive/suffer an “entire retheme.” It's not entirely clear what that might entail, though I've heard from other sources that it may involve a new color scheme, new music, and other changes.

The Wonders of Life, which is currently closed, is expected to re-open during The Land rehab.

Don't know about a rehab for CoP, but it's long been assumed that it will close again once "Stitch" is open.

I read reports a couple months ago that the Castle would be getting some gold highlights similar to the Disneyland Castle, but have yet to see a timeline or any photos revealing that the work had been completed. The DL 50th officially begins on May 5th, so the work could conceivably be performed any time in the next 9 months.

Never been to Disneyland so can someone please be kind enough to explain what exactly Soarin' is? Is it a show or ride? What is the setup like? The only thing I know abot it is that people seem to enjoy it.

Thanks in advance

It's intended to be a simlulated hang glider trip. You sit on a bench and a shoulder harness comes down to hold you in. The ride vehicle is then lifted a few feet in the air so that your feet can dangle free.

There is an enormous video screen in front of you which displays arial scenes from California as you "fly" across the terrain. They have other effects to compliment the ride such as wind blowing at you and the scent of oranges in the air while flying over the orange groves.

Other than briefly rising off the ground, the ride vehicle really doesn't go anywhere. It's not intended to be a thrill ride in the vein of Mission: Space or Rock N' Rollercoaster. But I imagine folks with a fear of heights might not enjoy too much.
