Question about applying for Disney VISA

I'm thinking about applying for the Disney VISA card, and putting any and all Disney expenses on it for our trip, even though we already have that cash set aside. My question is, is that a bad idea? Of course I would pay the bill in full with that money, but I was wondering if there was any advantage to using the Disney VISA? I don't expect the APR to be competitive, but I just want the benefits of the card since I plan to pay in full! Any input is appreciated!

I think it would depend on what your looking to get out of it. If your wanting discounts I think you would get those for your purchases, and I think you would get your disney dollars to spend there if your able to get them in time before leaving, (I don't know when you plan on leaving)but other than that I'm not sure you would get a lot of benefit out of it unless you've got a few months before leaving and plan on using it to earn more disney dollars to spend while there. I'm sure others will help you out with what all you can get out of it before going. I just recently got mine, but I've got a couple of years before I intend on being at the park again. I would call Disney Visa and have them go over what it is that your wanting to do and have them go over the details of the benefits you could get out of it to see if it's worth going through before going on your trip. Either way, have a really magical time while your there.

I have a Disney Visa, and I use it for everything (except Costco!). I pay it off each month, so I have never paid interest.

You do get the 1% back in Disney dollars which you can use at the parks, and that's the main reason I use it. We end up getting all of our souvenirs and other expenses there covered by the time we're through. To me, that's a great benefit.

Also, if you charge a Disney package, you get 0% APR financing for 6 months. Even if you have the money set aside, you can keep your money, earn interest on it, and then just pay off the Disney balance when before the 6 months is up.

I'm planning on traveling 12/05/08-12/11/08, although I haven't made the final decision yet on dates. I know I def. want to go during the value season to save on hotel rates.

Like Tam167, I use our Disney Visa to pay everything you can pay by credit card - food, oil, cell phone, cable. Then we will use the Disney rewards we earn between now and Dec toward food. We never pay any interest since we pay it off each month.

Since you are AAA, check at your local office for a Birnbaum's WDW book. I got my Disney Visa by using a code on a coupon in the back of that book. With that particular code, I was eligible for and received a $50.00 gift card, after I made my first purchase. I ended up giving to DD for her to use as her spending money. Disney Visa also offers some promotions for extra points for specific purchases, which can really add up the points. Looking to use those points this year for spending $!!!!! Also the 6 mo. deferred payments on Disney vacations is a real plus.
