Question about AP Upgrade

My husband and I are going to WDW later this month as a family. We are booked with the Stay, Play, Dine promotion with 5 MYW tickets, non-hoppers.

He and I will be returning to WDW in October for 7 nights and are considering upgrading to APs while we are there in February.

From what I've read, I know that we should use a day of the ticket before we upgrade, and that it needs to be done at a park and not the resort.

My question whether there are any restrictions on payment used to upgrade. I read in the ticket sticky that upgrades need to be paid by cash, but I've seen in other threads that APs can be purchased with a Disney Visa, so I don't see what the difference would be.

So, can we upgrade to APs using our Disney Visa? Also, what do we need to bring with us to upgrade: are our magic bands and CC enough, do we need to show ID, etc.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, you can. You just can't charge it to your room.

Actually I've done that. In fact, we went over our room limit and they had to call the resort for us to reset our limit.

You will need your driver's license. Or at least I have had in the past.

Cool - I was told that I could not do that last year in MK. Then again, CMs can be really spotty. I had to do it the next day, bringing in my CC from my room (didn't anticipate the need, so wasn't carrying it).

At any rate, I did charge it to my VISA the next day with no problems.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing (and felt stupid for it at the time). We headed off to DTD on arrival night and I didn't take anything but ID, the tickets we were upgrading and my KTTW card. Never gave a thought to the fact that it was going to cost more for our family than the $1500 room limit! But as I said, they let me do it with a call to the resort. I know I've also used my room card at the parks for an upgrade another time. Either I've been lucky more than once or you got a bad CM.

Thanks so much!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we won't have any sort of physical ticket, right? So I will need my magic band, ID, and Visa?

One more question:

What is the actual cost of upgrade? Is it just the difference between AP price and the # of days on the ticket? Is there an extra charge?

Also, to upgrade do I just have to pay the difference, or do I have to pay for the entire AP and get refunded somehow?

You just pay the difference - no extra fees, no refund required/involved.
