Question about AOL offer from MyPoints

I recently received an email from My Points offering 2000 points and two free nights at a hotel if I sign up for a 45 day trial of AOL. I have never done this before and I really don't know if I can. We have cable internet access, isn't AOL a dial-up service? I would love to have the points and I would cancel before the trial period is up. Has anyone done this? Is it worth the effort? Thanks for your help!!

The AOL will come through your cable connection if you have one. I did it last winter. It took quite a few emails to get the points, but 2000 pts. for doing almost nothing is a pretty good deal.

Thanks Letsbgoofy. How long did you wait to cancel your AOL account? I thought I would need to at least wait until I received the points (supposedly in 30 days) but is it longer? Do you know why you had to "fight" for your points? TIA

I kept it until the 44th day. I emailed Mypoints after 30 days and they said it was 45 days from the time I joined AOL before I would get the points. I know it was 30 because I kept a copy of the bonus mail...sometimes it isn't worth arguing. It was very easy to cancel AOL.

I don't know why it was such a hassle to get the points. It isn't the first time I have had a problem with Mypoints though, so I don't think it's a case of problems with the AOL offer.

Are there any "catches" to the 2 free nights at the hotel. I would sign up for the points and the hotel night but I have never done any of this before. Are the hotel night really free???

The free hotel nights wre not included in the deal I had last winter, so I can't answer that question. Hopefully someone else will know??

If I remember right, you have to put down a $50 deposit, the hotels are pretty limited and you have to schedule a certain amount of time in advance (60 days?), BUT if I use it, I use it. If I don't, no money lost as you don't have to use it.
By the way, I got my points (miraculously) in about 20 days, without ever bugging Mypoints or anything!!!

Thanks for the info- i going do it!! POints and hotel- cant beat that
