Question about Annual Pass

Hello! I am planning a 14 day trip in May of 2019. I am going to get an annual pass for myself while the others have a 10 day ticket. I'm wondering if I would be able to buy the annual pass now to take advantage of prices before they increase again but not activate it? Or does it activate once you purchase it online?

My understanding is that when you buy it online it is just a voucher. You have to activate it at Guest Services or a ticket booth that is when the year starts.

Correct. We did this for the 2017 year. Bought in Dec to take advantage of the 13 month special but didn't activate until Februrary when we got there. You must go to Guest services outside the parks or at Disney Springs to activate.

I believe there is now an expiration on the vouchers. They used to say something like 2031, but I read that they now need to be activated within about 18 months of purchase. Maybe someone who purchased more recently can confirm if that is the case or not. I know it was rumored to happen before the last price increases, but I don't recall if it definitely happened or not.
