Hi
Since I only signed up in August, I have not paid any annual dues yet. I received a letter saying these will be calculated on 15th January and will include 2008 dues and the portion I owe since my deed was recorded on 28th September. It says I will receive an Annual dues statement before 15th. I (think) I understand all that but my question is this:- Around roughly what date do these bills arrive with us in the UK and by when are they expected to be settled. With Christmas etc it would be handy to pay these at the end of January when I am paid for the first time after Christmas :rolleyes1

DVC charged my credit card on 16th January this year. My cc statement is sent out about 5th of the month and so it was actually towards the end of February before I actually paid it :)

Hi,

We became members 3 weeks ago and our guide told us we could pay our dues monthly via credit card, but we haven't heard anything about setting this up, and by the sound of your post that isn't actually offered as an option for uk buyers, is that correct?:confused3

So will we have to pay for the whole of 2008 dues in one go along with the portion from this year from our joining date?:confused3 Sorry to ask what is probably a simple question, but this is the first I have heard of having to pay upfront, and I am not best impressed.:scared1:

Ive only been a member of DVC for a couple of weeks, remember being told that my annual dues would need to be paid in January. I assume that meant the whole year.

When we bought in July we were told monthly payments were not allowed for UK.

Having only joined earlier this year I am not sure when the letters get to the UK, but the information should be available on dvcmember.com by Jan 15th at the latest. If you have elected to pay automatically by credit card it will be charged on or just after the 15th. If you haven't elected for automatic payment the annual dues are classed as overdue if not paid by Feb 15th. Based on that you should be okay paying at the end of Jan.

One other note, a letter detailing the proposed dues have been received by some US members you can find details here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1638884

Thank you for your help.:thumbsup2
Do you know whether you can pay by debit card and whether this can be done online or by phone.
Thanks

See no reason why you cannot use a debit card. Not sure how you would go about setting one up for them to use online - I'd recommend ringing Member Services and giving them the info.

We bought in Oct 2006, but did not "close" 'till mid December and our first dues were therefore paid in Jan 2007. They amount included roughly 1 months dues for 2006 and the full year amount for 2007 - $48 for 2006 and $742.13 for 2007.

AFAIK you cannot pay annual dues monthly if you are non-US resident.

Pity we couldnt settle the dues at the exchange rate of a couple of weeks ago - 2.11 to the £1 would be a huge saving.

When we signed up in August we were told that we could pay our dues monthly, we took the Disney finance and the monthly payment price includes our dues :goodvibes

It's still 2.0645 as I type this. On £1,000 dues that's only a £22 difference. Who knows it could be even better by January :santa:

I paid online using a debit card last year just to try it out. Every year they make little changes that mean you can do more and more online which I think is good for us over in the UK.

I spoke to member accounting today to try and find out what my dues would be and how we can pay them, and was told that even though uk members cannot pay in monthly installments from a bank account like the us members, we can pay monthly sums off of our dues by ringing member services every month and paying with a credit card if we want to, obviously you have to pay the january bill first, but then you can pay through the year towards the next years bill.

I don't know if this is news to anybody other than me, but as we only joined last month and we were specifically told we could pay our dues monthly, and then I find out from here that I can't, this might mean that next christmas isn't as bad as this one will now be as we won't have to find over £500 from only the next pay packet so soon after coming home from our first WDW holiday.

We were also told that we could pay monthly and were given the monthly figure as about £25 which was great. However, the statement came last week and it was a lump sum, I just called member accounting and they said it has to be paid in one go with another larger lump sum paid next month! I am really unhappy about this
When you do start paying dues, from the time you sign up or the time you close?

Unfortunately this idea won't help you with the dues payable for 2008 but it's something you might consider for future dues:

When I discovered I couldn't set up an automatic monthly payment from the UK, I opened a savings account into which I deposit a twelfth (approx.) of our annual dues each month. This way, I know that I'll have enough put aside to meet the bill when it arrives each January, and earn a bit of interest along the way. Psychologically, it also feels like I'm paying DVC monthly ;)

Funnily enough Hilary, exactly what we do. Looks like this year, we may get some of it back, due to the exchange rate.
