Question about Advance Reservations

I just made my booking for May and now I'd like to make some advance reservations for dining.

Do I need to pay in advance for all of the character meals, or just the princess meals? We're getting the dining plan, so I'm planning on trading credits for those meals.

If you are on the dining plan you shouldn't have to pay in advance. I know the restaurants you do have to pay in advance (if not on the dining plan) are at the castle, the dinner shows and I think 1 or 2 others but I can't remember now.

Cool! Now - this is going to sound like a stupid question, but - do you think I can make a res now using the dining plan and then call back and pay out of pocket later?

I read recently on another post that this is fine to do. You don't have to use the Dining Plan to pay for any meal. Just tell the Cast Member at the restaurant that you want to pay directly for the meal.
You don't have to call back the dining reservations number since they really don't care how you pay for your meal unless it is something like CRT where you must pay in advance. Take care of it at the restaurant.

I know that at the Castle and the dinner shows, the Luau and Hoop Dee Doo, you do pay in full on a credit card at the time the reservation is placed. If later, you choose to use Dining Plan credits for these meals, your credit card will be credited the charge.

I made my ADR's yesterday. I got Cinderella's Royal Table and the Princess Storybook Lunch. I wasn't charged for either because we have Dining, but she said I can pay out of pocket on that day if I want to.

They did take a CC number for a guarantee, and I'll have to cancel before 48 hours prior or I'll be charged for a no show.

I also reserved the Pirate Cruise and Alice's Tea Party for my DD princess: . Can't use dining credits for those, but they were $28.17 each, and my card will not be charged until the day before the event.

When I made my reservation for the Hoop-De-Doo, I just told them that we wanted to use our dining plan. They took a credit card number to hold the reservation and in case we just didn't show up for it, but NOTHING IS CHARGED. You pay NOTHING up front just give them the card number for holding purposes.
